Guest Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Hi Paul, I've started getting security warnings from Norton Internet Security this morning when viewing any pages on Modaco (no other websites). The alert refers to "HTTP Malicious Toolkit Variant Activity" and it originates from "search-you-need.com - 55.65.234.77:80". Not quite sure what is happening but could you shed any light on this? Very strange! ;)
Guest Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Good to hear it's not just me! ;) Seems the same happens when accessing Mobiholics too....
Guest Looby Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Good to see Norton 2008 right on it! ;)
Guest andrewkeith5 Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 (edited) you are using norton...what do you expect? they rarely get anything right just to add I don't get any warnings using Kaspersky Edited September 16, 2008 by andrewkeith5
Guest Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 you are using norton...what do you expect? they rarely get anything right just to add I don't get any warnings using Kaspersky Well Norton has never alerted me before and I was using Modaco just last night with no problems. All of a sudden - today - every page I open on Modaco (or Mobiholics) I get the same alarm - there's got to be something in it as all other sites I visit don't bring up these alarms...
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Investigating peeps... Grrrrrr.... P
Guest Looby Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Norton Internet Security always informs you if your PC is attacked. The best. ;)
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Not always which is why I stopped using the bloatware. My daughter's pc was plagued with trojans etc turning it into an email zombie that norton could not even detect. Turned to OneCare and it sorted it out. Will never go back to Norton again. As they say once bitten..
Guest TheNerd Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Norton Internet Security always informs you if your PC is attacked. The best. ;) Truly, my sides have split. :( :D
Guest TheNerd Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 (edited) Just checked it on Norton Safe Web: http://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=modaco.com -It's fine! modaco.com Summary Norton Safe Web found no issues with this site. •Threats to your computer: 0 •Threats to your identity: 0 •Nuisance factors: 0 Total threats on this site: 0 search-you-need.com has a rather different outcome: http://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?name...ch-you-need.com ;) Edited September 16, 2008 by TheNerd

It seems whatever it was Paul has sorted it as the alerts have stopped.
Guest Alex (nedge2k) Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 I'm normally the first person to shout at people who even mention Norton. That being said both the 2008 and new 2009 versions of internet security are now supposedly up there with the best of them in terms of detection and speed! Now, I found that very difficult to swallow but check out these test results: http://translate.google.com/translate?u=ht...sl=nl&tl=en
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 There is also a speed link here HERE Interestingly the tests apear to have been commissioned by Symantec
Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 Have a look at : http://www.av-comparatives.org For the past 3 years NOD32 has been the overall winner. However this year coming in from the left field is Avira. I've been testing Avira on my machine and it's brilliant. Catches stuff, lightweight, non intrusive. My only problem is that I get Kapersky Internet Suite free with 3 licenses from Barclays online banking.
Guest Looby Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 It's back. Norton blocked an intrusion attempt this morning while accessing Coolsmartphone. The same as the previous attempt while accessing Modaco. ;)
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 Nothing on coolsmartphone for me? P
Guest Looby Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 Is it because your Antivirus software is not notifying you or is it only attacking certain PC's. I just went back there and it is still doing it ;)
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 What's the notification? Can't see anything suspicious in the source... P
Guest Looby Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 (edited) It's this... Edited September 26, 2008 by Looby
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 Weird, on the CSP front page or elsewhere? P
Guest Looby Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 The minute you access the site....
