Guest awarner (MVP) Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 Unfortunately it does look like an internet scam and as always prices that seem too good to be true normally are. For example things like PlayStation 3 80GB for £140 it just does not happen. I can only suggest you contact the police where you are and also in the UK. While the site is still running you may be lucky but anythink by Weson Union/bank transfer is unlikely to end up with you getting your money back. Unless you paid with your credit card?
Guest Confucious Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 You should NEVER pay for things by Wstern Union. Paying £2K to a company you don't know is a bit foolhardy. Googling the postcode returns: Cariocca Enterprises Ltd 71 units – a mix. 2 Hellidon Close. Ardwick. Manchester, M12 4AH. 2 Sawley Rd. Miles Platting. Manchester, M40 8BB. 0161 273 6605. 0161 277 9660 ... www.cariocca.co.uk/ The fact that there are only 71 units and they have "Flexible ‘easy in- easy out' occupancy terms * only 4 weeks notice required *" does not inspire confidence. I would think the chances of getting your money back are slim to nil but get on to the police immediately and hope! Good luck.
Guest fabrice- Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 I did not pay with my credit card, foolish of me, however they said something about the credit card system was fraudulent so I figured I could loose my credit card account, thought cash would be easier. I contacted the police but all they do is tell you to wait and wait and give you paper work to sign. thanks anyway, if anyone had any dealings with these scammers please post here with any information that you can provide.
Guest jimbouk Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 I am sorry but I simply do not believe anyone thinks sending money to these "companies" is a good idea. It takes about ten minutes to get verification about things such as the companies record at companies house, the directors, the filing of accounts, a search on their premises etc. And who deals with a company who use a Capital Letter At The Start Of Each Word?
Guest Confucious Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 I am sorry but I simply do not believe anyone thinks sending money to these "companies" is a good idea. I Think It's A Good Idea.
Guest Mysterious Stranger Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 The 'business park' is about a mile from Collyhurst Police station. "Collyhurst police station, Rochdale Road, Collyhurst, Manchester, M4 4JA. To contact your local Neighbourhood Policing Team call 0161 856 3925" My office isn't far from there at the town end of Rochdale Road. That area is *rough* (although being redeveloped by Urban Splash) ..... Hindsight isn't much help here. I'm sure the OP has learnt a lesson now - but is £2k down. But the prices are too tempting to resist. I've emailed asking for a price for 100 x Nokia N78.... IIRC with Western Union you have to specify the office they will collect from and the person has to show photo ID. Can you see where I'm going here? ;) I'd assume they use the Western Union agent nearest them. Sadly ( in terms of 'staking out' a premises) there is one in the very same business park - JK Cars, Unit 34..... I have a nasty feeling they are in on it as well. Personnally to try to recover £2k I's spend £200 on a flight and come and see the guy in person to 'persuade' him to return the money. I doubt they'd leave it uncollected for long after it's available so shouldn't take long to find the guy. M.S
Guest Monolithix Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 I knew that logo looked familiar!. Wonder if T&M know it's been ripped off!
Guest Confucious Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 That's assuming T&M didn't just get their logo from some freeware... Have you asked them?
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 I Think It's A Good Idea. Bad joke especially thinking the ammount that has possibly been lost. @mono I was thinking that as well, it's not the same but very similar. Another very similar image can be found HERE
Guest Confucious Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Bad joke especially thinking the ammount that has possibly been lost. Most of my jokes are ;) Sorry.
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Most of my jokes are  Now you come to mention it ;)
Guest Confucious Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Yes - but no one I know actually takes anything I say seriously, I'm always surprised when anyone does!

Guest Paul (MVP) Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 Hmmm, 'ultimate mobile's' posting IP resolves to "Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council". Interesting! P
Guest Midahed Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 Hmmm, 'ultimate mobile's' posting IP resolves to "Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council". Interesting! P ;) This couldn't possibly be abuse of council resources, so presumably Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council is diversifying it's business interests. If they're expanding into the mobile phone market, maybe they'll be able to offer the local people a reduction in their council tax :(
Guest mwright Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 *gets popcorn* Just keep the noise down - don't want to miss anything!
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 I must confess, requesting payment via Western Union - GOTTA be legit right? I internet shop with Western Union all the time... ;) NOT! P
Guest xmob Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 Hmmm, 'ultimate mobile's' posting IP resolves to "Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council". Interesting! P Could be a public library. Many schools/libraries now VPN to the local council HQ and then out to the cloud via council controlled proxies.
Guest Confucious Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 Could be a public library. Many schools/libraries now VPN to the local council HQ and then out to the cloud via council controlled proxies. So a legitimate business that uses the local library..... ;)
Guest FutureDirt Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 i think the OP needs to go down to the address in Manchester to see whats up. I know i would if i was £2500 out of pocket!
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 Interesting the UM states they have not been paid a dime when they should know we don't use dimes in this country  FutureDirt share the popcorn don't be greedy ;)
Guest Stuart_f Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 Legitimate companies usually reply to complaints in giant red letters. Legitimate companies always sign their replies with a faceless company name and not their own. Legitimate companies NEVER supply contact details to resolve the issue at hand. Uh.... no wait I think I got that the wrong way round ;)
