Guest awarner (MVP) Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 I was in Tesco theother day and noticed they had the Acer Aspire One 8GB model for only £198 Also seen at Tesco Direct Anyone heard any good or bad news about this device?
Guest Dr Who Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 I have the 1Gb RAM, 120Gb HD XP version, in fact I am typing on it now, and it is an absolutely brilliant little thing. I wanted a netbook and thought the Advent 4211 too big for this type of device - I have a 12" laptop and the Advent is not much smaller or lighter. The Acer is well built, the screen is fantastic and the keyboard is perfectly usable for touch typing. You even get used to the unusual half height touchpad with the buttons to either side. Battery life doesn't seem too diabolical with the 3-cell. It has to be said that the screen IS small - the wide aspect helps usability but the limited pixels top to bottom can mean a LOT of scrolling. However the touchpad has multitouch (as least under XP) which provides fast access to zoom control, which is handy. I would happily recommend this version to anyone in the market for one of these devices.
Guest CanonKen Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 I was in Tesco theother day and noticed they had the Acer Aspire One 8GB model for only £198 Also seen at Tesco Direct Anyone heard any good or bad news about this device? I have the Linux version. Bought from Asda for £150 Advertised as 120gb but they have 160gb hard drive (well some do, mine has) I wasn't too keen on the Linux distro - Linpus, so I put Ubuntu 8.10 on it, most things work straight away but I had to tweek the wireless settings a little to get it to work, there are reports that the card reader and hibernation don't work under Ubuntu but I don't need these and have yet to try it and see if it works or not. Just bought a 1 gig memery stick for it, they only come with 512 built in, big job to instal it thought but I like a challenge :-)

Guest me075064 Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 yup really impressed by mine. I have the 8gb Linux version and it does everything I need, email, Iplayer, Browsing, games even Spotify. Fantastic. Wouldn't change it for anything.
Guest BLADE2142 Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 Currently running with XP Pro 160GB HDD 1.5GB of RAM Modded Wireless card with Intel draft N card 8GB SDHC Card Windows 7 worked great, installed XP until I get a non beta license ;)
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 Starter Edition works well, but somtimes miss the Media Center part, especially for recorded TV which I would like to transfer to the netbook during quiet times at work. After this topic was first created I actually bought the 160gb version for £125 at Tesco
