Auto answering Omnia :(

I believe this may be a bug with vodafones butchery of the firmware (why do they do it ;) ), perhaps others here could confirm this. If you have opera open, or text entry active on any application, and a call comes in it automatically answers. This is a real PITA.

Can others with and without vodafone firmware confirm this does/does not happen to them

Mine's a Vodafone Omnia and it does the same. I'm tempted to risk a flash to HH3 or HI1 because of this, but don't want to risk bricking the phone ;)

I haven't noticed this with my Vodafone Omnia.

Perhaps because I don't get many calls!? ;) I'll certainly look out for this bug.

Beware that the vodafone warranty will be invalid if you flash the firmware and (at least so far) there's not a voda branded firmware available which you can reflash to.

Not a great situation!

I have been trying to find a chronological order of firmwares with changelogs so I can make an informed decision, but have come up blank so far.

I also have spent a long time installing software and setting up my phone how I like it and dont know if I can backup, change firmware and then do a restore to get my phone back how it was.

Edit

Gav, just try it with opera open,. Bet you have the same bug.

There are loads of Omnia users over on the VF Forums that have exactly the same issue-- does appear to be down to VF firmware.

I purchased a VF Omnia Friday last week and flashed it with DXHI1 on Sunday, I was well aware of the probs with the VF firmware before I got it. Now the phone is usable and the branded nightmares are over!

If flashing did brick the phone, I would have just taken it back to VF under their 14day returns policy and demanded a replacement ;)

Would def recommend a reflash, it's very straightforward to do and it's pretty unlikely you'll brick your phone, as you can flash using the .EXE straightoff and don't need to change regions/user Grandprix etc.

Only qualm is you'll loose your warrenty, but hey.

Here's the process I followed:

1) Charge phone overnight

2) Do hard reset from the settings menu

3) Install ActiveSync and Samsung CDMA Modem Driver

4) Connect phone to PC, load I900DXHI1.exe (or your firmware of choice; this is the newest English one)

5) Turn off and turn on phone

6) Click start on the app

7) Device flashes.. give it 10minutes or so. First of all the ROM will flash, then the Phone part will complete.

8) Phone will reboot and autoconfigure, restarting a couple of times off its own accord.

9) Do another hard reset to cleanse any left behind nasties.

This thread makes good reading.. it's got loads of posts from people who've flashed their VF branded Omnia successfully.

Let me know if you have any other qs and how you get on.

I used PIMBackup to backup SMS, contacts, calling lists and emails before flashing, works very well.

Anything else I install from scratch.

Not tried SPB Backup, but I would assume that it's probs a good idea to install everything to make sure all apps etc work at the best speed / responsiveness possible.
