Guest neilrlsmith Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 Hi, When on a call my screen goes black within a couple of seconds. The only way to get off this is to press the power button. This is VERY annoying when needing to input numbers on the phone. I do I stop this please? Thanks.

This is part of the standard mechanism to do this when making/receiving calls. The logic being that you cannot mistakenly switch on/off applications due to the proximity of your cheek to the phone. HTC have cleverly provided a solution/workaround of sorts whereby this feature no longer operates if the stylus is out. The assumption, presumably being that you wish to take notes.

OK thanks - guess I'll have to remove the stylus everytime!
Guest SSR Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 It doesn't seem to work in my experience. Stylus out and it still powers off.

Hmm, on closer inspection, it doesn't seem to be doing it for me either (although I'm sure it used to). However, I have noticed that it seems to depend on the sensor of either the screen or touchpad. If you dial a number e.g. 150 as a test, the screen stays on until you place it up to your ear or even simply put your hand up to the screen at which point it goes off. If, however, you dial and simply look at the screen i.e. without it coming into contact with anything it seems to remain on. Perhaps they have assumed that if you want the screen to stay on you will be using either the headphones or the speakerphone? I will keep exploring the stylus theory and report back if I discover anything new
Guest SSR Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 I can live with it, but try explaining it to people from sales... ;)
Guest Kevlarski Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 I can live with it, but try explaining it to people from sales... ;) Try using the Advanced Config tool from the post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418151 It has many settings for the Diamond and there are a few that affect the screen going black during call. Light Sensor turns it black when the light level drops (when you put it next to your ear) and there are some other settings aswell. Just look through each, most have a short explanation of what they do. If you get stuck PM me and I'll look at which settings I did for them.
