Guest Geronymous Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Hi all, I've been spending a lot of time trying to find the best program to manage profiles (at a minimum it should be able to change profiles automatically based on time, and meetings). Important here is that I want to keep using Samsung Today 2, which means I don't have so much today screen left, and I don't need other counters for emails, sms, calls, etc. So in summary, I would want a profile manager that does not require a (big) today plugin. I have looked at SBP Phone Suite, SBHS PhoneWeawer, and... PhoneAlarm. I have even made my own skin for PhoneAlarm and put the icons I want (profiles, BT for A2DP and battery meter mainly). The issue here is that it does not work perfectly (like volumes that don't switch as they should), and I have the feeling (to be confirmed) that it drains my battery, even with DXHI1. Can anyone give me any further tips? Much appreciated!
Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 Hmmm I was going to suggest phoneAlarm, as on my kaiser, that was the best application to run. However it does take a lot of configuring to get everything how you would want it.
Guest 3shirts Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 (edited) SPB Phone Suite does this admirably and you can customise how much today space it uses (or none at all). It will allow changing based on time, appointments, hardware (such as bluetooth car kits) and lets you creat as many profiles as you like, each can change the bluetooth, wifi, backlight etc as well as volume. Not free though ;) Edited September 25, 2008 by 3shirts
Guest Geronymous Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 (edited) Thanks to both for the replies... fully agree on the comments. My preference goes for PhoneAlarm as, even though it is indeed more complicated to setup, it also provides more functionality... next to switching profiles that both can do, PA allows enabling A2DP (need that in my car) and tracks GPRS data usage (even though it does not seem to do that reliably). My main fear is that PA is draining my battery... I uninstalled it now and battery seems to last much longer. Will try out with the newest version in a few days. EDIT: I reinstalled a new version of PhoneAlarm (2.08), and battery life does NOT seem to be affected... good news! WTFH, are you using PA now on your Omnia? Or something else maybe? Guest Geronymous Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 (edited) In the end decided to go for "manual profiles" (i.e. put it in flight mode at night myself, and put it face down during meetings - nice feature of etiquette!) ;) , but still kept searching for a very basic profile management program... and I came across "MoDaCo's" PPC Profiles (http://www.modaco.com/category/151/ppcprofiles-pro/) Paul, any idea if this one works more or less well on the Omnia? Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 WTFH, are you using PA now on your Omnia? Or something else maybe? Actually no, Im not using PA at the moment. I work from home, so changing profile is not the necessity it used to be. Especially when I use etiquette mode at night to save being notified of every text or email. The main reason for not using it is: I went really overboard with my Kaiser, and installed so much stuff on it. That when it became slow(er) and unresponsive, I didn't know which app was to blame. Now I go for the minimal approach and see how little I need to install!

Thanks for your response... that's exactly what I do now as well: trying to install as little as possible, especially regarding applications that are running all the time (like gprs monitors, profile managers, heavy today plugins, etc.) Didn't know that etiquette mode also worked for other notifications different than calls... will try...
Guest Ingvarr Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 Umm, profile manager won't run all the time, unless its very poorly programmed. All it have to do is sit here sleeping, and wake up only to handle events that can lead to profile change.
Guest 200mpx Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 I'm actually using pA on my omnia and I'm user of pA since 1.2 version, so it worked on almost all my devices. Was trying to trade it for many apps but still using it. And it works perfectly with only thing that does not work - backlight. But Bruce promises to solve this probleme
