Any Way To Wi-Fi With Static IP ?

This is my first phone of this type, and I have no idea about windows mobile.

My issue is this. I have many items that wifi in the house, and my ps3 i like to shove in the DMZ so it has no connection issues.

However due to me rebooting items the DHCP server of my lovely Belkin N1 vision would assign the next lowest IP to the 1st pc/console that boots.

Therefore if its a pc that gets the DMZ spot its sitting outside the routers firewall all nice and unsafe. So I assigned all my items static IP addresses.

The Omnia does not seem to have this option unlike my brothers Iphone. I can not configure the IP. Even samsung said no its impossible. Although im sure in another thread someone hit on static ip addresses but didnt explain themselves. So is there maybe an application or something I am missing at all ?

I have currently got it using wifi with the router DHCP serving. The only workaround at the moment I can see is to leave it as DHCP serving and assign all the items that can static IP a number, give my PS3 the highest one on the list out the way and set that IP as the DMZ. So it wont matter when the Omnia takes the lowest IP spot.

If there is a post that covers this and I missed it I apologize. Just point me to it and delete this.

This is nothing to do with the phone - you need to reserve an IP address for the handset on the router, based on its MAC address.

To get the MAC address of your phone, the easiest way is to connect it to your router (wirelessly of course), then look in the atttached devices section of your router to get the MAC address. You should also have the option to set a reservation in DHCP from there. You can set the IP address of the phone, of course, but this would be a little unwise as it would mean that the phone would encounter problems connecting to other networks that were on a different IP range or that already had a device set to the IP address that you have assigned to your device.

Hope that helps....can't believe Samsung told you that btw...

Incidentally, having just read your post again, it occurs to me that you should be assigning all your devices an IP by reservation from the router, otherwise whenever you try to join them to another network you may hit IP clashes.

Yup ... id set a reserved IP address on your DHCP server ... assuming your dhcp server allows that. Then you will always get same address.

Firstly thanks for replying.

All my wireless items already have assigned / static IP's. Manually setup from within each item. Not the router. The only thing IP wise that I can do from the router is set the IP pool for instance 192.168.2.2 - 192.168.2.11 allowing me to add 10 devices and assign manually any ip between that number to said devices as long as they are different so they dont clash, obviously.

Mac Addresses are given to the router so only my wireless devices can use the network.

There is no where on the samsung to tell it to use 192.168.2.11 ... this is my issue, if i cant get it to take it, then when i boot my ps3 up it will have fit and moan its network spots been nabbed by a poxy phone.

I dont see anywhere to set mac address and ip together so they are paired up, you just do that manually within the device you wish to be networked.

The Iphone does it, you just go to network settings and click static and enter your ip gateway, dns, static ip, default gateway , and youre done.

The Omnia as far as I can see has NO way of being told which IP to use. Unless I am missing something on the phone. But seeing as I have a PS3, Wii, 2 PSP's and an Iphone setup wirelessly with no problems I feel either I am being a totally dick and missing the obvious, which Samsung has told me I am not, or I the phones just got a half ass Wifi setup.

As for if I went out somewhere to use my phone randomly on another wifi spot, surely i just "add new connection" anyway.

Well, I'm pretty new to the Omnia, but I think you'll be able to get a static IP if you manually set the properties of the SyChip Jaguar WLAN GSPI Card, from the second tab in the wireless configuration thingie. I actually tried that once and I think it works.

See I did wonder with the several network cards of which are displayed which one would be trying to hit the router, and so i set every one of them with my static IP config and none of them would connect. Probably didnt turn off then turn wifi back on after. Which I did just now after your tip and it was connecting just fine. See I thought it was possible but Samsung insisted no. Firstly they said we will phone u back tomorrow with the windows mobile team, but we believe there is an issue between belkin routers. Which I was thinkin, I'm connected just not with a static, so the belkin router is non issue. Then the windows mobile team phone back 22 hrs later with, "you can not assign a static IP".

So much for samsung support.

^ one thing about static IP is you have to remove it if you are going to use another wifi.

doesnt your router have a DHCP Reservation list? its some where around LAN settings, Network Settings.

Just checked out the N1 - it doesn't allow you to to reserve IP addresses....have to admit that would put it right off my Christmas card list, but each to their own. Your only option therefore is to go down the route that you have and remember to release the IP address when you want to add the device to another network

you can configure static IP address on omnia, follow these steps:

1- Make sure you are connectes to wireless

2- Goto - Start - Settings - Connections - Wifi

3- Goto Network Adapters tap

4- Click on SyChip Jaguar WLAN GSPI Card, there you can set the IP address to static IP
