Guest samjuan Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 Hi everybody, I don't know how this happens but I woke up this morning and found a couple of scratches on the call and end buttons and the shiny surface under them! some on the back cover as well... ;) This is very annoying looking at the price tag of this little baby, and how it really looks sexy that any little fingerprint will spoil its looks! I think its cover is very "annoyingly" delicate for that price tag! I had my P1i for a year without any cover, and I don't remember I was really careful with scratches, and I sold it "scratch free!". Anyhow I love my Omnia and will always love it despite those minor things... my question is, is there anyway I can remove the scratches from the shiny surface or any other part on my Omnia? If anyone is having this same problem and want a solution, please post your experiences here... or at least guide me to where the solution is... Thanks in advance to everybody...
Guest smartieroadie Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 I've been really carefull with mine to and have a zip case for it but the call buttons on mine have swirls on them as well as the polished metal surround. I just think it's inevitable sadly.

Guest Reuben (MY) Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 ;) i pay the device to ease my daily work. i'd prefer to let the device take care of me rather than me giving attention to take care of it  live with it. removing 1 scratch by polishing might get the protection layer thinner and gives you more scratches in future. worst of all, burn the motherboard and return for 1 to 1 warranty LOL (dont do it, just joking)

I would really love to know of a way to remove scratches off this little spoiled brat! ;)
Guest Ingvarr Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 This is not ruggerized phone, price put into PDA features, not into durability. Therefore careful handling and screen protector is essential.

Brother, ruggedized phone is for dropping the phone on the floor, in the water, going hiking, on-site civil engineer, in the battle soldier... kinda thing! not placing it on a table then the next thing you know, you have a scratch on the back! Anyway, what's done is done, I wish there is someway to remove those scratches... I'm sure someone here will be as happy as me if there is a way... right?
Guest phillipxenxciel Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 i have the back cover scratched~~weak
Guest Evrae Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 Ok, no idea if this will work as I havent tried. That g7 JML stuff advertised on tv might do it, on your own head be it. Its suggested uses for plastic and glass. Was going to try it on the kids PSP but havent bought any yet but I was going for the screen. I have the white backed Omnia and so far no scratches on my back and cant say I have noticed any on the front yet but with anything that has cost quite alot I tend to be very careful. Even at home it lives in a pouch unless Im using it and then it sits on a square of grippy stuff so it wont slip off the surface. I always buy screen protectors too, not too expensive from Ebay and dont always have to buy from abroad.
Guest somedude Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 i have scratches all over my omnia. NO idea how they even got there. Im going to try to send it out to a repair center in singapore so they can replace the housing and then ill make sure to get a case/screen protector asap.
Guest Reuben (MY) Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 do they charge you for the housing?
Guest somedude Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 do they charge you for the housing? probably so.
Guest samjuan Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 (edited) probably so. somedude, would you do us all a favor and let us know if they do it or not, and if they do, how much they do it for? and whether it is as good as the original ones or all squeaky and not done well? Guest msjfb Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 Have a look at this http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/17482.htm
Guest samjuan Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 Have a look at this http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/17482.htm oh God if it does what they are saying, this is great! I would've done this as they say "after removing it from the box!" Anyway. I might as well just get it though... However, one question though, why don't phone manufacturers do it right from the factory? it is not that expensive and "insensible!" Oh well, many questions in life go without logical answers anyway... Thanks msjfb. However I still would love to know if there is a way to actually remove those tiny little body scratches I've got!
Guest Geronymous Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 Have a look at this http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/17482.htm Anyone has experience with this stuff? How would it affect the touch-screen properties?
Guest Core Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 (edited) I use a Martin fields screen protector which also comes with one for the camera, its completely invisible and does not affect the touch screen. If someone put it on your phone without you knowing I doubt you would even noticed. I’ve just ordered another one as even though I’m very careful I’ve scratched it on my belt lol, I’m glad I had a protector on. Edited September 28, 2008 by Core
Guest dezota Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 Have a look at this http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/17482.htm I have it fitted to my new omina. A great bit of kit once fitted which is a bit fiddly on the edges. I would recommend it.

I would recommend it. how would you say installing it? is it hard? is it prone to bubbles or alignment errors? how about the camera?
Guest Ingvarr Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 (edited) Anyone has experience with this stuff? How would it affect the touch-screen properties? Well, Invisishield is kinda tricky to put on without bubbles/foggy areas and also its quite thick film. So it will affect touchscreen. Also its very rubbery/grippy, bad for finger sliding (but good for griping sides/back). I will strongly advise against putting it on the phone face/touchscreen. It uses quite strong adhesive (yes, adhesive), so when it hardens, removing it will be very hard, and possibly you will just peel away the touchscreen with it. Also, as I said, its quite hard to apply without visual flaws, and for the screen side this is very important. For the back/sides/keys this is a good protection though. For the screen I would recommend Martin Fields. Its ultra thin, has almost no optical and tactile reduction, and also uses no adhesive, so its a lot easier to apply and safely remove. Silicon skin is very easy to apply/remove. However it adds bulk to device, and also alters device appearance. Invisishield adds no bulk. Doesn't alter appearance (that's invisible in the name), but only if applied properly. And its harder to apply properly. So both has own strong and weak points. Its up to personal tastes, really. I would really recommend Martin Fields protector over other brands though. Just because its most proven one, I am not sure how ADVERTISING SPAM one will compare to it especially in department of thickness/non affecting the touch responsivness. BTW you will also get film for camera lens protection from Martin Fields along with main screen protector. Edited September 28, 2008 by Ingvarr
