Guest martin1234 Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 (edited) hi have been flicking around the forum , now my phone is unlocked and working, i want to put a satnav program on it, i ran tom tom on my nokia 6680 and it was excellent, maybe it will run on the ss omnia, i see some people are running igo8, ???? also i like the S2U2 lock, but how do you load anything on the ss,omnia ,so many options OF add on's, do i also bother to update rom, mine is XHG5, thanks Edited September 27, 2008 by martin1234
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 The version of TomTom you had on your Nokia is the Symbian version, it is not compatable with the Omnia. Some people have had TomTom 7 running but as TomTom 7 is only available on the HTC Diamond at the moment it means they have obtained copies. As for ROM ungrading, I prefer to ask the question of do you really need to update or do you want to update just because everyone else appears to? I would say to get used to the device first and then if there are issues you have and a ROM update is supposed to fix them then it may be time to consider upgrading.
Guest martin1234 Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 (edited) great thanks, well iam reading so many views on the best update , it makes you think your not getting the best out of the little monster, by the way, i have just manged to put a photo on and set as a background, and a music mp3 as ring tone, is it all done on the pc through the sync folder, also maybe you can tell me where i found folders on my phone, such as my documents, my music, data ,etc i found it by accident i can find them again, thanks for posting mate Edited September 27, 2008 by martin1234
Guest Reuben (MY) Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 here's some tips. 1) rom upgrade. as awarner mentioned, if only when you find your current version is not working correctly, choose a good rom and upgrade it. things that may occur as "problematic" to your device such as... battery die off too fast / application always crash / device is not working properly (backlight doesn't turn on when you attempt to wake the device up) etc etc. 2) navigating with the phone there are only 2 place you need to get familiar with... 1-Start->Settings... 2-Start->Programs... Setting consists of 3 tabs (the one appear at bottom of your setting screen). you may find all related icon which allows you to setup for the device and program, and connections as well, in this screen. Programs: consists of all program that ship with your device, plus all 3rd party programs that you installed or may install in the future. Games folder will also appear in Program list. 3) to personally test with all programs you need to click and open it in order to understand what it does. or worst come to worst if you're still not clear with the usage of such program, google for the software name and you should get a picture of what it does. and finally, whenever you are in trouble with the device, you can always come here to search for relavant article to read and learn. i'm sure if you have difficulties, someone out there experience the same too, as we are all with the same device called OMNIA. so rather than opening post to wait for immediate replies, first searching through the forum might solve your problem faster ;) i'll help if i can, but i was not paid to be here 24 hours, i need to work for my family LOL... i'm here to answer whatever i know or try to find solution purely because i like what they are doing so far with this forum, i gain knowledge from this side, thus would love to contribute out to help those in need.
Guest martin1234 Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 hi thanks for that, i just found earlier some yellow windows folders on my phone, but i can no find them now
Guest Reuben (MY) Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 Start->Programs->File Explorer
Guest Reuben (MY) Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 sorry forgot to mention... if you find your main storage is limited and you cant transfer bigger file to your device, do this... 1) connect your device to activesync 2) open your Windows Explorer or My Computer 3) you will see a icon named Mobile Device 4) Double click on it and you will see a list of folders 5) double click on My Windows Mobile-Based Device icon and you will see the full list path in your device, including Storage Card (if you have any) and My Storage (the internal 8gb/16gb storage shipped with Omnia) 6) copy your huge file to My Storage (internal) or Storage Card (mini sd card)
