Guest shamus072 Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 Hi all. New member here and have signed up due to the expertise on this forum regarding the Omnia. I know U.S. 3g has been discussed but was hoping a new thread will get more opinions. I really want the Omnia. Im in the U.S. on AT&T. Do you guys think I should take a chance, buy it now and hope a ROM comes out or wait for a U.S. release... if that ever happens. Thanks!

Thanks! im in the us with the omnia and im hoping for 3g too. i wish they had something you could plug into the omnia to receive the US 3g band.
Guest saznpins Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 I'm on ATT in the northeast US... The consensus seems to be that if it's released in the US, a software update will get you the missing bands  I went ahead and bought the existing Omnia since 3G isn't really necessary for me, I have pervasive wifi at the places I use data on my phone 95% of the time. If you absolutely need 3g you may not want to gamble on it and just get something that you know will work... but I have to say that I've had my Omnia since Monday and it's the best converged device I've ever used ;)

Guest Lancez Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 Youre not making this any easier. got my baby 2 months ago, loving every minute with 'her'.... i dont even care about the 3G, EDGE works fine so far. u have to see it in person, hold it in ur hand.... i bet u r gonna shell out the extra $$$ for 'her'. besides, u dont really get 3G network, they said they do, but thats not true....we are way behind than the rest of the world.... ;)
Guest phillipxenxciel Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 im waiting for 3G too~~but not att, im waiting for the t-mobile 3g`~~dont know if it works but t-mobile 3G is 2100~~so there is a chances~~i just need to get a 3g simcard which is not available yet~~
Guest Superguy Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 im waiting for 3G too~~but not att, im waiting for the t-mobile 3g`~~dont know if it works but t-mobile 3G is 2100~~so there is a chances~~i just need to get a 3g simcard which is not available yet~~ T-Mobile's US 3G implementation is a split 1700/2100 MHz. Uplink is 1700 and the downlink is 2100. So you could receive but not send. In other words, it won't work in the US on AT&T or T-Mobile. We're screwed either way. ;)
Guest respider Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 lucky here in Brazil we got some 2100mhz possibilities ;) In my opinion I wouldnt buy omnia if 2100 is not or will not be available  3G for me is a must
Guest pidsw Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 2100 is supported in all current ROMS 1900/850 and 1700/2100 (TMobile) are not. The I907 will support 1900/850 and this will be available ~ Oct 23. The big question is A) where is the bands information stored, ;) how much is hardware depndant, C) are there hardware differences in the I907 (The I908 is the same as the I900 and I900V). Based on the FCC filings, the I900 has the following specs: Same radio as the Diamond (up to 8 UMTS bands, including 1900, 850, 1700/2100, 2100, etc) The two cell antennae are optimized for 850mhz and 1900mhz. (This is odd as the I900 mainly runs on 900, 1800 and 2100. 850 and 1900 are primarily AT&T, Rogers and Fido. It seems like a no brainer, but there is one real caveat: People could not get the EU diamond to run on the US 3G networks. However the EU diamond is different from the US diamond in many ways, while the I907 looks almost identical to the I900. (and the I908). The I910 is CDMA has some different hardware I believe. Another thing is that you can install the EU Diamond Radio Firmware on the US Diamond and the bands do not change (?). The settings must be somewhere else.

All the i900s share the same base hardware (CPU, Storage Sizes, Camera, etc), its the bands that differ and these are hardware based afaik. The i900 and i900V are UMTS 2100 only, the i907 and i908 support UMTS 850 and 2100 and the i900 16Gb supports UMTS 2100 only. The exception to this is the i910, being CDMA not 3G. You can check out the differences here PDA Database Edited September 28, 2008 by neo158
Guest shamus072 Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 I thought it was pretty much confirmed that the i908 ande i910 were NOT the Omnia?
