Guest ShaneO Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 My i900 is currently running version DXHG3. I purchased it via the Internet from a Hong Kong based company. I've noticed a few bugs in this ROM version and feel an upgrade is warranted, however, I'm a bit confused with some of what I've read reagarding which ROM version I should select, particularly considering the "radio" part of the upgrade for use here in Australia. Can anyone point me in the right direction on this one? Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Guest Omnia_1 Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 (edited) I think HI2 is the most recent English version, however, I guess if your native language was something else you could probably use a different ROM. ATM there is no Australia ROM version (that I know of) and therefore GPRS MMS etc setting need to be entered manually. I can give you settings if you tell me who your provider is. I currently have HH3 ROM (check Secany's thread) and am too scared to upgrade it, previous ROM's have had big battery drain, this version is outstanding for me, 3-4 days with moderate use. This increase in battery may however be due to a hardreset I performed after flashing (recommended by one of the Moderators, Paul I think) Previous ROM upgrades I did not hardreset afterwards so Im unsure whether this is what solved battery drain or just the new ROM. My main problems relate to zone not staying to what I set, Battery life and a couple of other querks. I *think* my ROM is one of the earliest so it could probably do with moving to DXHI2. I was just concerned that such a move would cause issues with my mobile reception (Optus). Regarding GPRS, today I actually called Optus and asked them to disable it as I don't want any surprise bills! If I want Internet access I will wait until I'm home. Now I know that it's OK to upgrade to DXHI2, my final question would be is it OK to go straight to that version or should I do what others have suggested and install an earlier version as a progressive step?

Hi I bought my Omnia from a guy in Sydney off ebay. It had DXHG4 rom version. I had some issues including having to figure out data settings, etc for my carrier, three. After upgrading to DXHI1 and upon resetting with sim inside, a popup box asked me if I wished to apply settings for '3 AUS'. I chose yes and it applied the necessay settings. I had to make minor changes, but MMS, SMS and WAP (Planet 3) settings were automatically applied. I am now on DXHI2 and the same 3AUS setting was applied on first start up. I am guessting, Optus setting would also be included in these latest roms. I did not have any issue with upgrading the rom at all (need to follow onscreen insctructions very carefully, though, and use an XP machine) and I can recommend DXHI2 rom. No battery issues and a lot of bugs have been fixed up.

I have a Telstra SIM card (old one) and no network settings ever pop up, if others are looking to find your providers data settings etc just try google. To edit settings goto Settings--connections--manage existing connections, tap and hold...edit...Your data connection should not auto connect unless you have xtra enabled.... I got mine in Singapore and I have updated to all the roms in this forum. I'm in HI2 now, like it a lot. I never had any problem with the upgrades, my reckon is follow all the instructions (use xp, samsung driver, etc) and everything should be fine. Regards, Hlov

Well all I have to say is that when I upgraded to HH3, it didn't ask for automatic setting for 3Aus. It looks alike they included it since HI1+

Guest jon.s Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 (edited) i would def. opt for the upgrade to one of the HI's. i was in the same boat as you - bought it from an o/s seller, only i had G4 and had a few issues with setting up the data connection. from there i went to HH3 = odd high pitched noise every few minutes i was speaking on the phone, to HH1 = major battery drain issues (it would die in a day), but i lived with this until the HI1, which seems great! does anyone know what the notable differences are between HI1 and HI2? i don't notice that big a battery problem? thx [edit] good ref. link here - http://www.modaco.com/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=919743 [/edit] Edited September 29, 2008 by jon.s

IGO8's a little in and out for me on HI2, do you use all the default GPS settings (com3, baud rate = 9600 etc.)? cheers Edited October 1, 2008 by jon.s
Guest doctorlov Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 G/day. Jon.s GPS settings (com3, baud rate = 38400),is what I use works all the time for me. I'm running version 8.0.05400. cheers,
Guest ShaneO Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 .... Like others, I am reluctant to upgrade the ROM in case something goes wrong, but the battery issue has been what's pushing me to do it. The good news (at least for me) is that I've now found a way which would appear, at this early stage, to overcome my battery concerns! I've disabled GPRS, HSDPA & 3G and amazingly, my battery level is still at 100% after 6 hours!! This is the first time this has happened as usually I'm out of power after around 10 hours, even with virtually no use. By the way, I still have Bluetooth enabled as I need it to interface with the Hands-Free facility in my car. My other problem regarding "Time-Zones" has also been overcome by disabling the Automatic Time-Update feature. So at this stage I don't plan to do any updates, I'll just stay where I am. I would suggest that other people should turn-off these features, if they're not needed, as it's certainly apparent that's where the battery drain is coming from!
Guest fikish Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 I just got my Samsung Omnia i900 from an Optus store on a plan (i know i know!!!) My previous phone broke down though and I refused to stay with no phone till I could source one quick! So I don't know if I have the latest ROM, can anyone lend a hand? Currently I get this in my version display: PDA: i900DFHJ6/DFHJ6 PHONE: i900XXHJ1 Does that mean my ROM is version DFHJ6 or H1? I'm slightly new to the ROM versioning of this phone! Also, my older windows mobile had the ability to SKIP installing the software after a format via holding down some buttons, essentially loading up windows mobile bare. Is this doable in some way on this phone? I'm guessing not since everyone wants custom 'other' ROMS hey B) *pouts*

I am assuming that your version is DTHJ6 not DFHJ6 as there is no country code DF. For some reason, Omnia has four rom areas. One each for bootloader, PDA, CSC (I don't know what this stands for but it is to do with OS language) and then phone. The codes you show are PDA, CSC and phone parts. You have a farily new rom but it is dated. This version has some annoying errors. e.g. constant errors on gwes.exe.... Nothing serious bot annoying and sometimes you will need to soft rest when this happens. The latest English rom is DXHK1 and this might be released by the resident Rom guru Secany later. I currently have this rom and it seems to have significant improvements. Wait for that one.

I have recently purchased the Omnia I900 and still waiting for delivery from Optus, they keep telling me that Samsung is out of stock, so Aim guessing that it will have the latest ROM software. How do i find out the ROM version and how do I share this with you guys. This may help you Shane to convert you omnia to the Australian market. I am also with Optus. JonS, Where did you buy the IG08 software from? I am would like to put this on my phone instead of using google/GPRS. I want to save the GPRS for my emails. With IG08 are the Maps updated often, I have been reading that the maps are 2 years old, is this true. Thanks.

I mean you have to drag then drop before u can use the thing...
