Hello. I decided a month or so ago that I wanted to get an Omnia when my contract came up for renewal at the end of this week. Since then I have read every review and regularly read this forum to see what I can and can't do with the phone. Generally, I still think its a good phone, but I was wondering what you all thought of it now you have had to live with it for a while.

Anything drive you nuts about it? Anyone thought it was a super phone when they got it but the shine has worn off?

Especially as the HTC Touch HD will be out shortly, I am sightly wavering... Slightly ;)

My last few phones have been N95, SE W800 and a SE P900... Does anyone with that kind of history think I will like the Omnia.

Sorry to sound obsessive about it, but I will be stuck with it for 18 months so wanna make sure i get it right.

Thanks in advance!

Love it. Far better than my Kaiser. Battery life seems fine, I've got the apps I want and need on a day to day basis. Moderate annoyances can usually be fixed on here, by posting and finding a solution.

The phone will be fairly different to your previous ones, as they were realistically phones foremost. I believe Windows Mobile is a PDA first, that can make calls!

Camera isnt as good as the N95, but overall I think its a better phone.

Thanks for the reply. Good to know it isnt one of those phones you wanna throw against a wall after a month. Actually, I realise I use the non-call functions of my phone more than that calling itself, so I think the Omnia will work for me.

Off to play with one this weekend in a shop to make sure I can live with the text input!

had this phone for about 4 weeks now and still loving every minute of using it. i am now a dedicated omnian!!! theres no faults of the phone as such for me, yes a few little annoyances with widows mobile, but nothing i cant live with. usually there is a solution, either by app, or rom update. pretty much everything is customizeable in some way. except the one thing i would like to see, is customizable widgets. i would give it 8 and a half/10.

i was considering the iPhone 3G before buying omnia, they are launched at almost same price. one reason i chose omnia over iphone is the customizable of WinMo over the strict iPhone, if you havent tried WinMo, you'd be in a for quite a shock, WinMo gives you the power to tweak and toggle a lot of things, but it also leaves you with the responsibility to make sure what you did will not cause an error, unlike iPhone where apple make sure they have a tight hold of iPhone and will only let you do what THEY think is right.

Samsung sure did left out a great deal of "shortcomings" (bugs) in omnia, but with help of a lot of people here and almost couple of ROMS being released every week, things are beginning to look good.

I've had the omnia for almost two months now, and have found it to be absolutely brilliant. Most of the official reviews published on the internet come from the viewpoint of a few days to weeks usage on a unit that is straight "out-of-the-box". I don't feel that this does the omnia justice because one of its main strengths lies in its infinite customizability. After a few simple tweaks, some software loading, some rom flashing (all of which can be quite fun lol), the device operates flawlessly on all its major selling points (phone, pocketpc, satnav, camera, mp3 player, video player, podcaster, rss reader etc etc etc). I find it to be a very versatile and powerful device.

However, there is one thing about the omnia that has disappointed me: the TV-out capability. It's rather poor.

Coming from an N95, I am completely satisfied with the Omnia. I have no complaints about it . . . yet (I've owned it for 2 months now).

Same here, I came from the N95 and since there seemed to be no real leaps in technology coming I decided to go for something different instead (touch screen, non-Nokia, Windows based etc). The camera isn't as good due to inferior lenses but it's certainly nothing to sniff at. The slo-mo video camera mode is really good too, and a lot of fun.

It's even more customisable and add-on-able than Symbian which means most annoyances or personal choices can be fixed/changed easily.

The main thing is, it can do everything the N95 could do and has a bit more wow-factor to show off to your friends as well.

Exactly how I feel. everything out there seems so ho-hum at the moment, I wanted something a bit different.

Thank you all for your responses - I look forward to joining your ranks properly!

I own my Omnia since six and a half weeks now and today I am as excited as the first day I got it.

My previous mobile device was an SE P990i (Symbian OS, UIQ) and before that an SE K750i. Other than that I used to use a PDA Palm Tungsten T|X (Palm OS) with which I never have been satisfied ever.

I am very happy with the camera. It takes good pictures and also has many options (effects, modes, ...). The GPS works great with Google Maps or iGo 8 (after you got your very first satfix). Internet browsing via Opera is nice. And not to forget the calling function of Omnia ;)

Someone above said that he's not happy with the TV out function because of poor quality. Well, it differs from people to people I think. I don't think it has much better or worse quality than other mobile devices. I like the TV out function. It's something like a portable DivX player

There is nothing which worries me with my Omnia now. Some problems have been solved via ROM update, but a major one got worse via ROM update, too. That is the (really infinite) flashing LED light when a missed call or a text message arrives. With DXHH3 it worked perfektly and now with DXHI1 this feature is gone again (it only blinks till standby mode and a few seconds after and than stops suddenly).

Yeah, I'm a 2mth Omnian.

And I'm still having fun with it and haven't even played with everything I want to try (only just finding out that this little beauty does slo-mo videoing - thanks 3Shirts).

Admittedly the initial ROM felt like it was just out of beta, but Samsung and others here are amazing at working on and releasing updates to us which is fantastic when you buy the phone from another country and your local country STILL has no official release date for the phone.

It does have its issues tho, as with anything - for instance the second ROM update I did, my PC froze up and 'bricked' my Omnia and I had to send it back to Singapore to have it fixed under warranty. I've since updated my ROM several times with no problems, so long as you follow the instructions.

What I miss the most is the lack of voice-dialling. There is an option you can purchase but there are issues with the abilities of this component. I installed the VC 1.6 but it seemed to clash with other software I have installed on the phone.

But other than that, the Omnia rocks! It sounds great when listening to tracks, watching avi's of movies or shows, having someone tell u where to go with GPS navigation, an OCR business card reader (what a time saver this sucka is!), a great 5mpx camera with tons of options, video camera, hand-writing recognition capabilities, Office 2007 apps so you can do work or update your CV while having at a cafe, WiFi connectivity, rapid Internet access, and WTF - it makes phone calls TOO!! Seriously this phone ROCKS.

Just a couple of points that might help you solidify your choice... The Omnia allows for multi-tasking, AD2P (stereo headset capabilities), and lastly Samsung actually make and use the audio chip, the same one that iphone uses in their unit!

Jeez, I got a bit carried away here hey. And I'm only a user and not a seller of these things!

I hope this helps...

Cheers

The Omnia is my first winmo device and i must say i am quite happy with it.

The only problem so far is that i have spent way to much time trying out functions, adjusting settings, testing new programs and skins. ;)

Have had my Omnia now for around 6 weeks and absolutley love it. The first couple of weeks were frustrating as had never had a winmo device or touchscreen and there were a few teething problems. I came from a Nokia N93i which I really enjoyed using but the Omnia is a step up. Thanks to sites like this, I am now able to enjoy add ons plus am able to learn about all the functions and use it to its full capability. On top of that, the omnia looks fantastic.

I am going home to Singapore for a short holiday in Nov so I shall read the forum to see if its worht buying a SG Omnia or just get the UK ones...

Well I have to say I think the Omnia's amazing! After a string of HTC phones under my belt, this is definately an HTC beater. I always had to tweak the quality of the bluetooth audio quality of the HTC and the output was really low. On the Samsung it's FAR FAR better, much louder and of a higher quality. The camera is 100 times better than anything HTC have produced. I am totally convinced by the 'strange' resolution now. I love it for seeing my nice big album art in WMP, where as it was shrunk down before to fit the normal sized screen.

What do I not like? Propriatory Samsung connections. Grr. Mini USB please. I don't like the fact the stylus doesn't fit inside the shell. Grr #2. Hmm, and there really should be a 3.5mm jack plug on the device. Small things really (literally).

The phone is still new, so many things to come, like Brodit car holders etc! Too exciting.

My biggest worry was that I had no where to go forum-wise. I used to use XDA Dev all the time!!! They said they wouldn't support the Omnia as it wasn't HTC. Thank goodness I found you guys. Although there are no cooked ROM's, at least Secany is providing us with updated one all the time! Yay
