Guest Toocan Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 Hi all, this is my first post. I'm going to be an Omnia owner within the next few days, and I'm planning on getting screen protector tomorrow, so it arrives before the Omnia and therefore it can be applied straight away. I've read a lot about the InvisibleShield and I'm really contemplating getting one, but to be honest the idea of getting a brand new electrical item wet(from the adhesive solution) worries me a bit! Has anyone put one on their Omnia and if so how did you find it? Are there better protectors to use? Thanks in advance for any advice.
Guest Jonnyw2k Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 should be pretty safe, im gettin an invisbleshield in the next few days (probs thursday at the latest) if you want to hold out till then, thing that i like is its gota lifetime garuntee and the videos on youtube of it on the iphone are pretty cool

Guest rob_jes Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 My experience with invisible shield has been good so far. I have had mine for more than 3 weeks now. I haven't had any problems so far. The only one negative that i can say is, i think the side pieces are not cut to proper size. I had some difficulty getting them aligned.

I had previous expediencies with invisible shield too, I used to use on my N95 and I liked it very much, that is why I bought again for my Omnia. But in a touchscreen device that rubberish sheet is horrible for sliding finger/stylus. But the buy wasnt a total waste, I'm still using the protection in the case (I bought the full body invisible shield)
Guest echaya Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 I once got a set of invisible set, and I diy on another devide. But not plan to get another set for my omnia What i suggest is that didn't not use its screen protector it will make the screen less sensitive. Probably, the thickness of screen protect is find for IPHONE,,, but frankly speaking, not that OK for WM device nowadays due to you know what... However, the shield for rest of the body is just find...at least for first a couple of months...
Guest jestyrr Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 Does the inivisible shield cover the chrome colored rims of the omnia as well?
Guest respider Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 Does the inivisible shield cover the chrome colored rims of the omnia as well? yes covers pretty much everything, except roles and optical button even the 2 regular buttons are covered
Guest protts Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 Currently using part of the shield coz same as the others i couldn't stand using the stylus on the protector. stylus tends to 'grab' the film... so i've switched to martin field's overlay for the screen and camera lens and the rest is invisible shield.
Guest respider Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 so i've switched to martin field's overlay for the screen and camera lens whats this??
Guest DeOS Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 Martin Fields Overlay --> http://www.overlayplus.com/
Guest respider Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 (edited) thank you... didnt know this one with this the stylus doenst "grab" the screen? it slides ok? what about sensitiveness? Edited September 30, 2008 by respider
Guest bobsbbq Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 I can agree with others. I installed the invisible shield and it was not all that easy to install, did not fit 100 % on sides and corners. The screen portions was horrible rubbery feel and if you use the stylus it can tear or make marks on it. I tried taking off the screen portion and using a Martien Fields but in the end I removed all the invisibles shield. IMHO waste of money stick with a Martien Fields.
Guest DeOS Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 How long did you have your invisible shield on the device? I heard it takes about a week for the invisible shield to attach properly and become smooth again.
Guest Ingvarr Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 (edited) To an extent, yes. But this will correct only very minor defects. If you did not apply it without flaws, it will not automatically correct itself, no matter how long you wait (ie if air was trapped under skin, it will not escape). Guest samjuan Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 I have used ADVERTISING SPAM's ultra clear screen protector, and it is amazing! the screen sliding with the finger became extremely smooth! I love it... and it is totally invisible! I wish they make something for the whole body... anyway I think I will order invisible shield for the rest of the body... what do you think guys? would I be able to install invisisheld with the screen protector on? it covors everything from the upper speaker "excluding the speaker and the lens of course" until the "samsung" logo?
Guest 3shirts Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 The problem with most screen protectors on touch screens is that they are plastic, so you lose the nice slidey surface of the glass screen.
Guest Ingvarr Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 (edited) Why are you assuming that original touchscreen is glass? ;) Resistive touchscreens must be pretty elastic, so glass is not very good for them. At least the glass must be "plasticized", to make it more soft and bendable. Only capacitive touchscreen devices (as iPhone) can use *real* (hard) glass for the faceplate, because screen does not have to deform to detect touches. Even them, often the plastic low friction coating (as teflon) is used, because raw glass is not actually that slippery. Edited September 30, 2008 by Ingvarr
Guest Kings Lee Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 just my 2 cents... I have bought 2 set of invisible shield for my Omnia, because I have sort of ruined the first. I got the second set from a local shop and with some extra money, instead of taking it home and DIY, they have done a good job for me. From my experience, it is not easy. I have used one set for iPhone for practice, but for Omnia, it's much more difficult. It requires excellent skills to do it well, the guy in the shop applied a few sets to Omnias and he is doing it quite well, only one corner doesn't stay perfect. For the set that I DIY, 3 corners are collecting dust... So far I like it, but both times I didn't use their screen protector as I knew it is no good for writing or scrolling.
Guest protts Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 they are useful to a certain extent like becoz of it's rubbery texture it becomes slightly non-slip so i can lean the phone standing up against a wall or barrier. useful when i'm driving and navigating gps....... that's the main reason why i keep the invisi-shield on. Martin fields have proven themself to me over the years. I use to change screen protectors once every 2 months coz of scratches from the stylus but eversince i used martin fields it would manage to stay on for the life of the device. I don't really bother about trying the device without any screen protector coz i know it's not going to remain unprotected in my hands so no point. but that's just me. ;)
Guest saznpins Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 Here's my .02: Since the Omnia is such a sleek device I decided to try these and I have the full body set on mine. I wanted to give them a fair shake but after having them on there and using them I'm just not feeling the love <_< . I don't like the rubbery feel on the screen and the edges on one side (where they didn't seem to fit just right and overlap a tiny bit) are attracting dust. Yech. There were 8 pieces to put on with the full body set and it was very tedious to do and doesn't look perfect although I was super careful, I watched the videos of how to do it and took my time. I ordered a ADVERTISING SPAM leather case to use instead and hope it comes fast because as soon as it does I'm taking these off. I'll stick to what I've always used on my devices in the past... a Boxwave or Martin Fields for the screen (which imo have a much better touch response than this thick rubbery stuff) along with a leather flip case which adds some bulk but offeres a lot more protection. Since I'm a gal I always have a bag anyway so it's not a big deal ;)
Guest prelude Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 You can also try these... http://purplemoo.com/pc_viewItem.asp?idProduct=852 I've have been using them for donkey years since Palm. Very good quality and the ones they have for the i900 covers edge to edge unlike the protector that comes in the i900 box. Infact all their protectors are device specific, meaning they cover the entire screen even if the screen is different shapes and sizes with button cut-outs.
