Guest nickmoutia Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 (edited) Hello, Only my second post but hey. I normally charge my phone by my bed, but i got fed up of the cable slipping off the bedside table. So i decided to construct a charging dock. It was quite easy really, i used 4 sticks of epoxy putty, some clingfilm and a charger(from my old G600). I wrapped the phone with clingfilm so the putty doesn,t ruin it, then plugged in the charger, then mixed the putty and moulded it around the phone in a base sort of shape. I then sanded a bit, needs a bit more work but you get the picture. Took under an hour. Its not the prettiest dock, but when its fully sanded and sprayed up it'll look ok. nick Edited October 4, 2008 by nickmoutia
Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 Looks good ... very ingenious. I take it that you do not use the etiquette mode on your device though.
Guest XtremeMaC Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 (edited) Hey there I made a similar docking station using fiber glass. though i never thought of mounting the charger like that. its wierd that i didn't think of that bc my old imate pda2 's original docking station was like this. mine is portrait, so its not landscape like yours. but u've given a very good idea. now i shall work on that and post my results here. I think i'll use the chineese made car charger's socket for this. it is $3 anyhow ;) thanx!! edit: decided to make it landscape like yours. the socket helps to hold the phone and also mine blocks the mic a little. Guest 1Mack Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 When will these go into production I need 4 right away? ;) Seriously, a great job man. Do it yourself work at its finest. :(
Guest sjc22us Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 looks good mate would love one of those as a docking station tbh

Thats exacty why i made it portrait. I think i'll make one out of fibreglass with a data cable when i get the time. I've got a 4 month old baby so getting time to make anything is at a premium. I might do a few and put them on E-bay, when i get the chance. nick
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 Excellent... i've been wondering how a dock would work on the Omnia, and now I see a solution ;) P
Guest MightyMouth Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 Nice, looks like something from the Flintstones. ;)
Guest nickmoutia Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 (edited) Thanks guys, I spent an hour sanding and spraying: Not sure if i like it black. Think i prefer the "flintstones" look. ;) nick Edited October 4, 2008 by nickmoutia
Guest Massive Attack Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 that landscape dock is perfect for digital frame application, you can set an event (using memmaid) that will launch the digital frame when omnia is connected to an AC charger
Guest henryyu451 Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 Wow, that dock looks really good. Post it up on ebay I'll buy it! ;) Where did you download the battery charging screen? and the iphone sliding unlock thing?
Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 Might be worth getting quick to market with some of these, and might sell quite a few via ebay!
Guest XtremeMaC Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 oh yea!!! it looks very very awesome!! very professional.
Guest tropolite Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 Sweeet! Me like! Yeah - I'd have to say I'd buy something like this... very innovative nickmoutia! I like the 'Flintstones version too. The little socket cover I noticed is jotting out to the front - I'd make provision for it to be running parallel with the phone, knowing me I'd catch myself on the thing jotting out the front and the whole thing would make a trip the the other realms of my room. You should patent the dock before someone cashes in on your creativeness! **10/10** ;) (When you put them on ebay you better give MoDaCo forum lurkers and participant first bite at 'em)
Guest kao123 Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 Fantastic bid of modding, I have just been inspired to visit B&Q this weekend to see if they have any epoxy sticks !!
Guest Ingvarr Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 Ebay sell a nice one: This is far from being nice. USB cable sticking from the side? Give me a break.
Guest Bad-Co Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 Seriously Patent it and send all the details to someone who can mass produce it... Surely they'll jump at the chance
Guest Ingvarr Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 I bet chinese will jump at the chance soon enough anyway, patent or no patent ;)
Guest XtremeMaC Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 its a shame for samsung. they should have thought of this. and it should be included in the package. my ex-phone imate pda2 had a very nice stand that had a place to dock and a place to charge a secondary battery..
Guest datafanatic Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Fantastic bid of modding, I have just been inspired to visit B&Q this weekend to see if they have any epoxy sticks !! Hi, Can confirm that they do - £3.89 per stick - i bought 6 and a can of black spray paint. Now to let the fun begin, never done an ounce of modelling in my life so this should be very interesting!! Laterz DF ;)

Im interested in building my own too. Please include detailed procedures if it comes out good at the end. Many thanks

Guest melvynadam Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 Can't see any of the pics! I realise this is an old topic but I've just placed an order for an Omnia to replace my aging HTC Wizard and so I've begun looking at all the forums and threads related to my new device. I'd love to buy a couple of landscape docks but can't seem to find any. I'm perfectly capable of doing some modeling but would love to see the pics first and none of the photos in this thread are showing any more. Does anyone have the old images? Or a link to a site where I can buy a landscape dock?
Guest Magpie2000k Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 I second that where are the pics
