Guest andymaxwell Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 Hi there, I am looking into the whole netbook thing and am fascinated by the idea of installing OSX on one. I currently use a powerbook...well, it got stolen recently but thats another story). I will be travelling soon and want a smaller machine. On (either the) Advent 4211 or the Aspire One... In OSX, does the touchpad scroll function work? Likewise the 3d-scroll function on the Mighty Mouse? Also, is it possible to install the EEEpc user interface on the Aspire One/Wind? Lastly, having read all the posts I am confused, am I right in thinking that the Snow release of Leopard (10.5.5?) works? Many thanks Andy Maxwell Bristol, England.
Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 Hi Andy, I "suspect" that the Advent 4211 would be an ideal machine. Personally the Acer Aspire One is just that little bit too small, like my EEE 701 was! The scroll function doesn't work under OSX, but the cursor keys are just under your right hand little fingers, so easy enough to scroll. Plus if you use an external mouse that has scroll functions, that's easy enough. You can't install the EEE PC interface on the Wind or the One. However, there has been a cut down version of Ubuntu released for the Aspire One, which would be pretty similar experience. Yes, 10.5.5 release of Leopard works. A minor correction here, as this is not the Snow Leopard, that hasn't shipped yet. I suspect Snow Leopard to be version 10.6. (EG Tiger was 10.4, Leopard was 10.5, and Snow Leopard will probably be 10.6). Cheers
Guest veggycar Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 I had some success with touchpad scrolling using FFScroll, but it has now decided to stop working which is a pain, but not the end of the world. Occasionally too it boots up with the wrong screen size, but a couple of reboots and it then behaves itself. I am really happy with mine anyhow and after 12 months on a laptop PC being back on Mac OS is pure heaven!
