Hy

I have a problem with my integrated gps unit. It can't find any satelites. I tryed with Google maps, Garmin XT and Igo8 and none of them can't find one satelite. Programs can connect to the gps module but then they just write "looking for satelites". Does anyone know how i could fix it.

I tryed with different programs, closed all other applications and rebooted the phone, and changed the port to port 1. I didn't touch the baud rate in the settings menu but i did try to change it in the program menu and it didn't work. And that extra boost thing in the phone settings menu didn't help.

Any help would be apreciated

I did this by changing the "External GPS" settings located in Start > Settings > System

Change Baudrate to 38400 from 4800.

So my settings are GPS program port COM3

GPS Hardware port 9

Access : Manage auto

Seems to get GPS alot faster and almost everytime i launch iGO8 within 10-20 seconds

Hope this helps

I was trying to get a signal and was standing in the middle of a crossroad. People looked at me like i was nuts. ;)

I tryed all the programs i listed before and it didn't work. Not even one satelite.

Check "Enhanced GPS" settings located in Start > Settings > System

mine says XTRA Enable

Auto Download Enable

Download Interval: 24

soes yours say that

I just made a breaktrough.

I had enabled enhanced gps but didn't work. But then i left it run on my EDGE connection and used the manual update option. And i don't know how but i found some satelites in our house. Then i went out and he found 10-12 solid satelites in all the programs. I turned the enhanced option off because i think that it'll work now.

Now the only problem that remains is the wlan connection problem and i'll make another post because it's easyer to search that way.

enhanced gps is required to be on, you may switch off the auto download to save gprs cost but XTRA must be on.

when you switch location it will use your gprs connection to download available satalite for the new location and then scan through the list. if XTRA is disabled, you'll never get a connection moving to a new location.

Not even if i move just a little? I was thinking something in the line of 20km. Or if i keep my gps on?

And if i disable auto download do i have to manualy set it to search for the satelites or can i leave it and it'll manage on its own.

i guess you will not get satalite from your current location too, especially when changing time. say if you downloaded XTRA on 3pm, it will not be the same satalite at 10pm because the globe is rotating ;) enable that option will makes your life easier, it doesn't require much connection though... once you get the satalite fix, you can disconnect your current gprs connection and start using the gps program.

well... it's different in googlemap as googlemap requires internet/gprs connection to be on all the time when the program is running.

I am able to use iGuidance on my Omnia without having to enable XTRA ;) I have never enabled it and my GPS works just fine. It takes a few minutes to get a lock while I'm driving in the car, but it always works after 3-5 minutes. iGuidance detects it as com 3 and 4800 baud

I too never have Extra switched on...the very first time I used iGo I did and via my WiFi it loaded the reference data, but from that point on I have it disabled. I get a clear lock in about 30-60 seconds and from there it's all plain sailing. I also have the same Com and Baud settings.

I am actually using my Omnia as a great stand alone GPS in the car!

Found this on another forum:

Just found out an interesting behaviour of the phone.. may be unique to H3 though.

For those who cannot acquire any satellite signals during GPS (even after 30 min of trying), try turning your Enhanced GPS and also your NOGPRS program at the same time. For me interestingly I can suddenly get signals from the satellites and acquire my location within 5 minutes. I did note that the signals are not as strong as with the actual GPRS on.

Try it ;)

NOGPRS? is that a program?

i've made several test this morning, notice the time needed to get GPS satalite is longer when baud rate set to higher. so i've set it to 9600 and able to get signal between 10 seconds to minutes+.

when i'm on 33600 or 28800, it fails to get signal as long as 5 minutes standing outdoor.

I just found out that the program works like a charm now. Even without Extra. It found satelites in about 5 seconds which is a blazing speed. I didn't check how long it would need to get gps position because i would have to get out of the house but the fact that it found them is ok to me.

@reuben: Nogprs is a program that disables all of the gprs, umts,... connections.

Great! With this settings my Omnia get the signal faster. Befor, the signal was weak and it take 5-10 min to work, but now in 1-2 min is strong.

Hi all,

I used to get a lof of GPS issues prior to HI2 or HI3 ROMs. So far these two ROMs are the only ones to get quick Sat lock on ( <1min).

Previously, I used to fiddle with all the COM, BAUD, XTRA , etc settings to get fast lock on for Garmin/MapKing/GoogleMaps. But i noticed nothing really helps maintain the consistent fast lock-on EVERY TIME except for the above ROMs

TRy out those ROMs if you are not on it and let me know if it also holds true for you too.

P/S: I do understand that some GPS SW will require some settings/apps in order to work such as GPS Gate for Mapking. What I am suggesting here is for general quick lock on for SAT irrespective of which GPS SW or settings related.

Just want to second cmloo's post. I upgraded to HI3 today and Google Maps instantly gets 4+ satellites, often 6 or 7 all without changing anything. Prior to upgrading I was trying all kinds of tricks, Extra GPS Settings, GPSGate, different Baud rate settings, ports, different sat nav apps, and none of them worked, all while my mate's Nokia 7610 always found satellites. So yeah, try upgrading first!
