Guest bpivk Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 Hy As you can see from my posts i have a lot of problems with my Omnia. 1. The wlan card doesn't want to connect to a secured network (wpa-psk/tkip or wpa2-psk/aes) but it can connect to a unsecured network. 2. Another issue is the wlan coverage. I get only one line if im in a room next to the router so i'd like to know if that's normal because i was told that wlan's on gsm's aren't that bad and yet i have to be near the router to use the internet. 3. When i connect to the only (weak) unsecured line from my neighbour the phone imediately uses gprs connection to connect to the internet if i open a browser. I found some posts that i can change some settings and the phone will only use the wlan connection but how can i setup my phone to use wlan and then go to gprs & company if that fails. Thanks again for all the help. This is a great phone but it seems that it wants me to work for it some more. ;)
Guest Reuben (MY) Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 it uses gprs means the wireless that you're connecting to doesn't have internet, or the signal is too weak/down. i have no problem connecting to secured WEP and WPA tkip. try remove your secured connection setting in Start->Settings->Connections->Wifi then switch off your wifi on the phone, and on it back when it detects a new network, use the popup ballon to enter your psk/tkip security key.
Guest bpivk Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 (edited) I did all that and went trough 2 routers. One from D-link and one from Linksys. One had a wpa and the other wpa2 encription. Both didn't work. I deleted all the settings for both routers and connected to dlink that has three lines. I retyped the password and it just says connecting (about 5 minutes now). I even left the internet connection setting without a password to see if a screen or an error will pop up saying that i should enter a password. But it didn't work. Edited October 2, 2008 by bpivk

Well it didn't work. try restart your wireless routers, make sure it has both b/g enabled and SSID is on then turn wifi on in your device and u will have a pop up saying "...." networks found if popup doesnt come you can add wireless conf manually, go to settings/connections/wifi menu/add new hope it will work ;) Edited October 2, 2008 by kslakhani
Guest bpivk Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 (edited) Reuben i deleted all my saved networks and waited for samsung to tell me that i should enter a password. Well it did and then it just stayed on connecting. Could it have an issue with dhcp or something or is just broken. Edited October 2, 2008 by bpivk
Guest Reuben (MY) Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 check Start->System->Version see if you have MAC address. some people found the mac is empty, and not able to connect. stay at connecting... hmm... usually it gives you that output if the security key is incorrect, or the security type is not supported.
Guest bpivk Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 (edited) Yes i have a Mac adress. And yes it should give out an error but it doesn't it just stays there on connecting. I wanted to disable the smart card certificates on the last page to see if that could bother him but it's grayed out. Do you think that a firmware upgrade would fix my problem? My firmware is: PDA: i900XXHG9/PNHG9 PHONE: i900XXHG8 Does it update the module for the wlan card? I really don't know what do to anymore. Edited October 3, 2008 by bpivk

Hi i had the same problem with the hh5 firmware but solved it by flashing to hi2 firmware.
Guest Reuben (MY) Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 if it doesn't void your warranty... ya it's better to upgrade ;)
Guest bpivk Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 I'll take the phone to our registered service center and i'll tell them about the problem and that they should udate it.
