Ok so I searched around regarding this problem. Few things that I just want to ask without resorting to updating the rom. Just a quick background: All programs that i've installed are on My Storage. Default ringtones have been moved over to My Storage to free up space. The rom i'm currently using is DXHG4.

1. Is there a fix (non rom) for this problem.

2. Storage = 87.69 total and 7.13 mb free. I had 14MB free the other day, and I notice it gradually go down. I don't surf the internet on my phone. Seems like temp files or system files/page files keep accumulating somewhere but I don't know where. Is there something I can clear out here?

3. Side Question: How much more beneficial is the HH1 rom over HG4?

Any other related information can help. Thanks.

go for HI2 instead of HH1 because it's more popular at the moment.

you can always use file explorer to browse into all location to see which file occupied your device. i install most of the application in My Storage and the My Documents in the phone is all default as i transfer file direct to My Storage or SD Card directly with cable connection.

at the moment i'm at 60.59/89.53 (28.95mb free) storage on DXHI2

by the way, there's an option in camera to set Default storage. check whether yours is pointing to My Storage?

Hi, With a Windows mobile device you need to manage your memory. A few rules for that:

1. Install, if possible, all your programs in My storage or Storage Card

2. Change folders cache, if possible, to your My storage or Storage Card (internet explorer, opera, mail attachements etc)

3. Install a small application to close programs instead of minimize. For instance: P bar

4. Install a 'cleaner' to clean all unecessary files and registry: For instance: MemMaid

5. Install a good file explorer to manage your files and to clean your recycle bin. For instance: Resco explorer

6. Change you camera pictures folder to My storage or Storage card (DCIM folder)

7. Create a folder My pictures in the My storage or storage card and deplace there all you pictures files in \My device\My documents\My pictures (you have about 4mb of samsung pictures there) .

8. Do a good cleaning at least once on a week (see above, with MemMaid and Resco explorer)

If you do this once a week you will have about 30 mb available in your storage memory.

;)

Thank you guys for your help. I will try your tips ;)

Does the HI2 rom encounter this 5MB storage space problem?

Again on a side note, do you know if the newer roms increase sensitivity on the touch screen? I notice the Omnia is not as near as sensitive as the Iphone touch screen.

Thanks again!

No, If you respect those rules. I'm running the DXHI2 with 38 mb available on storage memory. But mostly of my programs are installed on My storage except those who have to do directly with the system like SPB mobile shell.

Wow, it has been more than a year! ;) So ...

1. I'm also looking for it. That's why I'm bumpin' it ;)

2. I'm having the same storage space problem, and I also think it's related more to the user than to the ROM. I'm more concerned about only finding about 26 Mb worth of files, including all files and folders, excluding my storage and storage card, ROM files and windows folder (51M with windows, 291M with ROM files and windows), but in Settings -> Memory it says 87M in use (about 4M free). On the other hand I have 53M free in program memory. I'm considering Total Commander a good file manager with even zip/ftp/lan/registry plugins and so on but I guess I'll have to try alternatives to see if I'm wrong, unless someone has already had this experience and is willing to share. I would be more than happy with even deleting all the excess files manually if only I could find them ;)

I am very selective with installing programs outside my storage, but what's the difference in storage memory vs program memory? Yet another thing good to know.

3. Actually my side question ;)

I have noticed on 3 ROMs (carriers - version not listed at modaco, first custom, current custom -- I don't remember versions but these two are very different customs from modaco) that my *screen turns on* every night at 23:59. Is that normal? I have set to turn off the light manually because it better suits my needs, so it can really be a nag if it's not connected to power supply over night. What really spooked me out that on the carriers original firmware, if I had the phone turned OFF, it actually turned ON at that time and then back off. That's not normal right?

Is that normal? I'm even considering starting a new thread about this.
