Guest samjuan Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 Maybe you've heard me talking about this in many other topics, but I felt that it "at least for me" deserves its own topic! The "power saving" mode of the "My Storage" drive in our Omnia is driving me crazy, you cannot install real time applications on it, it is not reliable having the browser cach in it, messaging will sometimes hang if it has attachments, all this because it will dismount and will be unavailable while in standby! I'm sure any "hardcore!" user of this drive will understand me! I mean, try downloading something with Opera on the My Storade drive, and put the phone on standby "press the power button", or try using "Resco Explorer" or any other application and leave the phone for a while and wake it up then and see how the application reacts! I know this is not always the case, but it happens. Sorry for the long post, but is there a way to make the "My Storage" always available and never "dismount" whatsoever? Thank you guys. Ooh by the way, I am on I3 and it is totally amazing, the touch sensitivity has never been better!
Guest kaer Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 Mine's ok. On I1. How do you mount MY STORAGE back when you come back on standby?
Guest samjuan Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 Mine's ok. On I1. How do you mount MY STORAGE back when you come back on standby? Oh man, that is totally another story! sometimes it doesn't come back... and I have to do a soft reset to bring it up again... Thanks for mentioning that and adding to my grief! ;) Well, I'm exaggerating I know :( ... but all this can be resolved if the My Storage doesn't get dismounted... I don't care about battery life either... can someone help? I mean no memory should be dismounted at all, I had P1i, and I used to install and run virtually "everything" from the memory card and download stuff directly to it no probs even with the device on standby!!!
Guest samjuan Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 does changing this affect the "My Storage" or only the external card? [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Cl ass\SDMemory_Class] "DisablePowerManagement" I have made it "1", will monitor and get back to you with the results of "battery" and "My Storage" stability. However if anyone is having this problems as well, please test and let us know if it works. Cheers...
Guest Reuben (MY) Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 mine didn't have any abnormal behavior upon wake up... i've tried several times leaving resco explorer in My Storage and go standby... upon device wakeup, everything still the same and i'm able to browse folders in my storage immediately.

Anyway, I still have the same issue, sometimes the "My Storage" drive doesn't appear after a standby, the only way to bring it back is by doing a soft reset! Is it really because of the standby? is it a ROM issue or is it just my phone and I have to take it back to the service center?
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 I've never had 'My Storage' disappear? :S P
Guest samjuan Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 I've never had 'My Storage' disappear? :S P Paul, how often do you soft reset your phone? If I do reset my phone everyday, I won't have this issue, it only happens after a long uptime, and if I do a soft reset, the drive just comes back up! I am on I3, and I do have all my email attachments on the storage, all programs installed on the storage, and the opera cache on the storage as well... ;)
Guest testerr Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 I still have the same issue, sometimes the "My Storage" drive doesn't appear after a standby, the only way to bring it back is by doing a soft reset! I have same issue. But reasonably rare - I have omnia for about 2 weeks and My Storage dissapears about 3-4 times. And I have softreseted my omnia about 10 times at all (3-4 from this 10 for a dissapeared My Storage reason). But anyway it is very annoying, because I notice dissapearation in cases when I NEED use the storage space. (...maybe I should choose iPhone....?) But I have few thoughts about the reasons: 1. I have ****I1 polish firmware, and in fact "My Storage" is named "Moja pamięć" (notice some special national characters within an storage label). So maybe a reason for disappeared storage is non-english name? 2. I have always My storage in USB mode (not Active Sync) - maybe this is connected with dissapears? 3. At first time it happen I haven't any NEW software installed to my Omnia, so probably it isn't connected with installation 3rd party software on My Storage.

Guest Lucavi Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 OOOO! I've been having this problem ever since upgrading my firmware to hi1 and then hi2. Basically the "16gb" or "8gb" part of the phone becomes unavailable while the phone is in standby mode. Really annoying when you are downloading larger files and your phone goes into standby after 5 mins and the download fails. Mine also tends turns off wifi when its is in stand by. Again, annoying because it will have to reconnect.
Guest testerr Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 Basically the "16gb" or "8gb" part of the phone becomes unavailable while the phone is in standby mode. Really annoying when you are downloading larger files and your phone goes into standby after 5 mins and the download fails. BTW I think that even if you download to Device Memory then downloads always fails, because after some timeout (in your case 5 mins) phone goes to standby mode, so CPU is switched to "almost" off state. But I don't make any tests, so I'm not 100% sure about fails downloads made to device memory, but if you try this please post your results here. For WiFi disconnecting I think that reason is the same (in standby mode CPU not works - only waits for some events to be awaken). But you can try switch off power saving for WiFi (Settings > System > Power > WiFi). And again test it and post your results. Good luck!
Guest Anfloyd Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 I too have exactly the same problem. The odd thing being is that it has only just started happening. When I wake up my device from standby I am unable to run any app that is installed on 'my storage' and it disappears when I look for it with file explorer. 'My storage card' is fine.
Guest comic75 Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 I'm having this same issue - I just now looked at file explorer and I have My Storage and My Storage2 - the My Storage 2 is the actual storage card, My Storage has a mail folder in it????? I did use SK Tools to move the messages folder - so Im looking at undoing that.
