Guest rodrigorajao Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 Hello all, I'm a new Omnia owner (just arrived last week). Unbranded, unlocked, ROM DXHG3 (and I'm NOT updating). I've had 2 PDAs running WinMo in the past, so I'm familiar wth the OS. I have a few questions so far: 1. Once the battery gets too low, the screen dims (and I always have it manually set to brightest), the sound is lowered (including the alarm, which almost made me miss my ride to work this morning), and the phone signal shuts off. Is there a way to stop theses from happening? Just suck the battery dry and get over it. 2. My carrier has no 3G. Does it save any battery if I turn HSDPA off in the menu?? 3. I never used a GPS device before. Where can I find a good practical tutorial (no theory bull, I know that already)? Are there major differences among the different softwares, or is it just personal preference? I need street maps for Brazil, which I already found. Can I use any software with them? I'm trying to use Destinator 7, but I'm not sure it's really good. 4. Isn't the included Google Maps good enough for the job above? I guess thats all for now... :-)
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 1. Er, not sure if the later ROMs do this, but it's NOT configurable. 2. No, but disable 3G in the Phone menu. 3. Er, not sure about a real comparison... 4. Google Maps is fine UNLESS you want voice guided turn by turn directions. P
Guest rodrigorajao Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 2. No, but disable 3G in the Phone menu. OK, thanks, but how exactly do I do that?? Is it that Band Selection option in the last tab in the phone menu? Another question: Do I need to enble the XTRA GPS with automatic downloads option to get GPS working ccorrectly?
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 Yes.... No, but it'll give you faster fixes... P
