Samsung Omnia uses Windows Mobile

Nokia N96 uses Symbian

So your choice would probably be determined by which of the operative systems you prefer.

IMO its not operating systems but whole phone form factors. These phones are entirely different, and used in entirely different way.

N96 is slider, classic phonepad, no touchscreen.

Omnia is candybar, virtual keyboard, touchscreen.

So its up to you what you like more.

IMHO WinMo OS is 1000X better than Symbian, I have N95 also and the slider gives me the s..ts. Menus are slow and tiresome to find what you want, some apps need to be manually signed with developers certificates even trial apps etc and this is really painful experience. If you just want a phone go for the Nokia but if you want real technology thats very versatile and customizable then Windows Mobile is a great experience.. Alternatively if you want to be a show pony you can buy iphone ;)

Dropped both the N95 and HTC Touch which I used as a spare and Omnia is by far the best. Except the constant fixing/breaking/fix/break cycle in their roms.

if you want on the go, right out of the box, just as it is, then go for n96, if you want something you can control more, like tweaks, hacks and customization go for omnia.

Also the N96 has a lower res screen.

320x240 vs the Omnia's 320x400.

May not seem like a lot, but it'll make all the difference when using it!

before i buy my omnia, when to tried out the N96. First impression was the quality of the phone is so plastic, worse than N95 8GB.

N96 is even more expensive than omnia, and the N96 i had hands on had a slower performance than N95 8GB. Only thing that i like about N96 is the speakers. :(

The N96mini stand which allows us to tilt the phone for watching movie was accidentally disconnected from the phone while i was testing the stand - haha... i was like OMG! anyway I manage to just connect it back to the phone ;)

anyway, like what others said, WM vs Symbian, and if you want features out of the money u pay, i'll go for WM - just my 2 cents... good luck!

If you want a great camera then go for n96 as i don't think you can beat nokia cameras, otherwise it is just like all the other phones. The omnia at least keeps you occupied for while if like me you like a 'new toy' to play with.

Chalk or Cheese really!

Similar devices and similar specs, but different approaches to the way they do things. Id really suggest getting into the shop and trying them out. Personally I would say that Nokia's N range is focussed on media, camera, video and music ... whereas Winmo was focussed initially on business apps, such as office tools, email and internet. BUT the lines are really blurred with the Omnia. It has a great camera, great media capabilities and a nice form factor.
