So the actual built in file explorer won't let you browse your PC over the network then?

Is it not possible at all?

It should be possible using the normal File Explorer, but you have to set your WiFi connection to be a "Work" connection. Not tried this on my Omnia yet, but it worked fine on my Vario II.

No need to change anything (The internet or work doesnt matter)

Start>file explorer>menu>Go To>Open Path>New path>

a window will open ask you to type address like this \\yourcomputer\sharedwhatever*

*to know a correct address, do it on your pc /notebook first, go to My network places on your PC, then see which one is shared or connected, right click on the icon > properties> target (u be able to see the address start with \\)

type the address on the Go To then you will be connected, if it ask username and password or save password then just ignored and go next. then u will see your shared folder of your PC. Thats it

You cant execute any file but only cut, copy, paste , rename or if it is picture can set as background or Print via bluetooth thats all.

it's referring to File Explorer in your omnia, not PC.

or you can just use network folder, a simple software that will solve those problems ;)

can you access music files that are not in the public (shared) folder?

you need to perform right-mouse-click on your Music folder in Vista and Share it. by default it wasn't shared ;)

edit: dont use the default Share subitem in popup menu. instead, choose Properties in the popup menu, go to Sharing tab, click Advanced, and put a share name there.

because i've just tried clicking the Share menu and choose default permission, after sharing i went to properties and saw it wasn't shared.

You could use Remote Desktop connection to literally/visually access anything and everything on your desktop PC. Any program that your desktop can run, will show up on your Omnia. You literally see your desktop..or at least 240 x 300 of it.

You can't really transfer files this way, however. But its pretty sweet to change music tracks playing from your Desktop with your phone during a party or other social situation.

My guide, *cough cough

Used both the File explorer and Resco (Resco is such a better enviroment!) And can see all the shared files and folders but on media files i get the message "cannot play the file. The file is either corrupt or the player does not support the format..) i know its not corrupt and touch player does play mp3s and mp4 so?? Any ideas?

And the permissions on the PC shared folder are set to Full Control?

maybe... because touchplayer usually reads the music file and extract out albumn image as a file. so without permission to write maybe that's the cause it fails.

allright, and what if i want to do it with bluetooth? I'd like to browse the files on my pc through my omnia. i've paired the devices, got activesync to work so i can browse from my pc but i can't find a way to reverse it and browse my pc from my omnia :/

anyone got an idea?

True but the thing is with MP3s in my case it has write priveleges and after opening the files is create a .jpg of album cover but still the same message?

I use Resco Explorer to map network drives. I do this so that I can install cab files onto my device without having to copy them first into the storage. I also you SPB Backup and my scheduled backups will place the backup file onto my wireless share (if wlan isn't available my schedule will attempt to use FTP, to perform this check I wrote the script using mortscript).

If you don't want to purchase Resco Explorer, you can also use the the freebie network folder plugin for the standard file explorer. Do a google for Network Folder Plugin 1.0, install the application and then it can be found in Start>Settings>Connections
