100% yes......

Even though I know VF have ruined the Omnia I have SPB shell installed. A nice skin and the fatc I have HH3 which fixes the auto answer issue I will stick with it for a while.......

Though I updated my HTC Touch ROM immediately last year as there was a larger knowledge base and a lot more ROMS available (as well as the official Orange ones)

i think it might depend on where the phone is from. My phone has been from indonesia with DXHG3 and i tried to update to H12. The first time i updated was to HH3 which worked until i tried to reflash with the same HH3 again and it failed to turn on.

Yes, I had my omnia for 3 days and no need to update, it's really fast, no bugs / problems and I prefer to wait a bit for real improvements...

I remember the day I recieved my htc TyTn (1), when I updated its rom, I bricked it 20 minutes after recieving it.... I spent 4 hours to unbrick it (reeeeally hard time, lot of different "mc giver" techniques to do so) so I will wait a bit before... don't wanna do that until I really need it ^^

Just REALLY take care!

Top tips seem to be...

- Disable internal modem if your laptop has one

- Use XP

- Install the modem driver

- Make sure you have lots of battery

- Double check everything

- Cross everything

;)

c'mon, half the fun of owning omnia is the heart stopping when flashing to new rom, the excitement of bricking your omnia when like a virus strike, or a power failure, or the windows giving you BSOD. then the re installing and tweaking your omnia. maybe its just me, but when you settled in your rom, and and find the apps you needed, no more experimenting, omnia will just become just another phone, no more excitement, no more heart stopping rom moments ;)

For those that did brick, what did you do?

Take to a service centre? In which case, how quickly did they sort the problem.

I've bricked one Omnia, sent it back to orange who replaced it.

Haven't had the balls to do another yet, but want to improve reception so really want to!

I just wouldn't flash unless I will have a good reason to do it. I must say firmwares since HI1 aren't really that appealing to me.

Pretty stupid to brick you phone "just because I felt like flashing newer firmware".

Yeah, i'm really scared of bricking.

I almost bricked it when re-flashing the same rom as i have now, dxhg4, and haven't had the nerves to try again. Especially since i haven't found any release notes telling what's new.

My phones bought on ebay from hongkong, so i don't really have a warranty, and i don't know what official firmware to choose since china isn't on the list at samsungs upgrade site...

I've done it 3 times now but think i'll leave well alone until an official uk update on Samsung site and even then i'll probably flash back to original ROM to validate my warranty.

The reason for not doing it again is that all my updates have crashed right at the end of the PDA part where i have to then soft/hard reset to get it back working.

The last couple of ROM's have also made my phone restart half way through the screen alignment which scared me somewhat.

Despite the PDA part being updated successfully, despite they problems - i've not read of anyone experiencing the same problems as me so am unable to conclude what is causing this to happen.

I was going to try flashing again on my work pc but for some reason it won't even run the install application?!??!

Strange stuff!

P.S. Mine is an unbranded phone bought trough an O2 reseller.

so what happened to it?

It failed transfer of file 4, and it just stayed with the samsung omnia splash screen, and a green progress bar across the bottom (at 100%).

When i gave up waiting, i just soft resetted and it was good.. Phew!

This is exactly what happens to me to. I'm running DXHG4, and every time i hard reset, it restarts while I am calibrating the screen. Not very stable either...

So i'm not alone with these issues.

Not sure it should matter but are you using a laptop of desktop pc?

I'm on DXHI1 now, which (apart from a better battery) is quite poor compared with HH3 - especially the screen sensitivity.

I want to flash back to HH3 but don't feel confident enough to do it.

Think i'll wait until the official release on the Samsung site - within 2 weeks apparently.
