First post... I know this has been discussed here and there, but I was wondering if someone (Paul?) might be able to hack the radio to allow the phone to play it without the need for the headset adapter to be plugged in.

I know the rationale for the adapter - used as an antenna - but let's face it, radio signals are usually strong enough that there is no need for the adapter to be plugged in (I have tried this many times on my Nokia N95 - before Nokia "upgraded" the firmware to force a headset to be plugged in - and always had very clear reception). I also lost the adapter and still would like to listen to the radio occasionally... Just a thought.

Depends how it checks for headset really. If it just checks a reg key for headset mode it might work... Hmmm, I wonder...

If anyone can do it, it's you! By the way, thanks for all the great ROM updates!

but if you have headset without transmitter, you still not able to scan for radio signal... so registry might enable but ain't gonna hear any voice

Why would you want to do this anyway? Samsung didn't make it that way to hassle you, there's a reason for the adapter.

Try bundling up your headphone cable, that'll already make the stations pretty hard to listen to.

I tried with a headset corded adapter and didn't work. It will be great to have a small adapter with a small antena in order to use a bluetooth headset. That's why I didn't buy one for now.

Sure enough if you edit HKLM\System\State\Samsung\EarJackStatus and set it to 1, it lets you load the radio app!

Won't let me hit play tho?

most likely the play routine is looking for the adapter in that case Paul.....

now I would laugh hard if you set it to 2 in the reg value that it magically works....a Samsung security hack or something lol

but what it does do is allow the Equaliser option on the Touch Player which is dimmed otherwise (with no headphones) Edited by Raul6

For what it's worth, setting EarJackKeyValue to 1 opens the phone call pad.

Any ideas on getting the play button to work with this? I'm keen to be able to use this functionality without the headset, because if we can make it work, we can then look at the issue of radio reception separately, ie discreet antennas etc.

Even if people don't agree with the usefulness of making this work I'd be grateful of any continued input on how.

This wont work..... for the simple reason that the adapter is the antenna to actually receive the signal. Yeah you can open the program but you cant make it work. Try this with a regular walkman if these things are still around. Check out the fm receiver when you plug in a headset..... that little graphic that says fm or radio or whatever is either solid or flickering...... no headset? no reception.... this works especially if your walkman/cd player has a scan function.....

Anyway you want radio? If you have wifi available...Just check out Kinoma free player or if you want access directly without messing with a program, go to this website which the player pulls its links for the fm (http://www.tuned.mobi/) its great..... and gives you access to any fm radio station.... here in the us or anywhere.

Thanks for the reply but if you read the other posts on this thread you would see we're already well aware of the fact the headset is the antenna, and that I'd like to be able to operate the radio functionality first, then worry about the signal second.

I know you can tune in over the internet via Wifi, but this thread is not about that, and is as the title suggests, about the FM radio.

Sorry if that sounds at all snotty - it's not meant to be, but I was trying to indicate in my last post that I'm not interested in people telling me "Don't bother because it won't work", I'd just like to find out the registry stuff that lets us meddle ourselves.

I don't mind using the antenna, but an interested in re-directing output to my stereo bluetooth headset. Since the output can be switched from the wired headphones (through antenna) to the speaker of the Omnia, I'm wondering if there's a hack to shunt the signal to bluetooth... Anyone have any ideas?
