Guest Juicey Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 (edited) Hi, Although not the end of the world, this is starting to get a little annoying. The ROM I'm currently on (DXHI1/DXHI1/DXHI1) comes with Opera 9.5 (2372). From somewhere this Opera is importing 8 default bookmarks, all linking to a subpage of mmm.samsung.nl/... (like news, traffic etc). Whenever I delete the bookmarks and close/relaunch Opera, they are recreated. I've looked all around, but can't figure out where Opera is getting them from. I'd like to get rid of them... Things I've tried: - The same favorites were in IE at first, but I've removed those and they don't re-appear in IE. So guess Opera isn't getting 'm from there. - Deleting all Opera bookmarks by removing the opera6.adr file. No use, the file is just recreated. - Searched the registry.. nothing related there that I can find. - Looked through all Opera settings (about:config), couldn't find anything there. Strangely.. I'm on a DX rom and regional settings are set to UK, but the bookmarks still appear for the samsung.NL website (yep, am Dutch). Thought it might be related to the SIM/Dutch provider, but same behaviour occurs with the sim removed. I'm stunned, anyone any ideas? Or am I just missing something very obvious? Guest omnia newbie Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 I have the same problem with HI2
Guest Juicey Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 Well, good to know I'm not the only one. Just out of interest, to what website do your bookmarks point? I'm still curious why mine comes up with the .NL website when everything else on the phone is set to English/UK.
Guest moldowan Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 Same problem here! HI5/HI3, german rom. The bookmarks point to the german website. I did not have this problem with the original G5/G6 rom.
Guest markym Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Anyone had any success with this? I've got the same problem and it's really bugging me.
Guest Juicey Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 Nope, nothing yet. I'm probably flashing to HJ1 tomorrow, will see if that still has the same problem.
Guest wkmmx500 Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 I'm on i900DTHJ6/MCR02 (Pauls modified rom) and the problem is still there. Have looked around the internet but have not been able to find a solution
Guest markym Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 I rang Samsung UK support on Friday and was put through to their WM team. They went away to try it on a sim free Omnia and came back and said they could delete the bookmarks and that they remained deleted. However the firmware on their device was HH3. They definitely put it down to a firmware problem and as HI1 (the one I'm using) isn't 'official' in the UK then they couldn't help unfortunately. They said there was a new firmware due out soon in the UK and to keep checking the website. As HJ6 also seems to have the same problem I'm not holding my breath. Actually as per my post in this thread http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-omnia-h...ternet-browser/ I'm now using Opera Mini and loving it to be honest.
Guest Juicey Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 Flashed to HJ1 in the mean time, and unsurprisingly the problem is still there, as with the other 'newer' roms. Will probably have a look at Opera Mini, or wait for the mobile firefox to be released.
Guest tammam Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 Hello guys, to fix this you will require a registry editor on your Omnia. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\ and rename the "OperatorBookmarks" key to "OperatorBookmarks1" (no quotes) I've tried to create a registry key to automatically remove this so that I can post it here instead of you having to install a registry editor but it didn't work in the usual way so i'm afraid you'll have to do it manually. This is not a bug it's just that the operators want you to have these bookmarks no matter what because as ever they know better. Regards, Tammam
Guest Barthlon Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 thank you very much for this tip, it's a very annoying thing and it appears to happen on all rom versions
Guest BaconMcSandwich Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 Hello guys, to fix this you will require a registry editor on your Omnia. Any recomendations? Is there one included?
Guest 3shirts Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 (edited) Just to add, you can actually just change the 'UseOperatorBookmarkRegistry' value from 1 to 0. PHM do a great free reg editor: http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/ Edited October 28, 2008 by 3shirts
Guest wkmmx500 Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 Hi 3shirts, Thanks! Works perfectly. There finally gone.
Guest markym Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 Nice one tammam/3shirts, works perfectly. I knew someone would have the answer somewhere. That's what I love about this phone. Thanks again
Guest Juicey Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 Great work tammam/3shirts, thanks! For those people that are unfamiliar with a registry editor, attached is a file you can simply import. Unzip first though :lol:DisableOperatorBookmarks.zip
Guest kaer Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 Does anyone know where is the file to back up the bookmarks?
Guest Juicey Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 Does anyone know where is the file to back up the bookmarks? Opera bookmarks are stored in \Application Data\Opera9\opera6.adr
Guest guidorist Posted November 23, 2008 Report Posted November 23, 2008 @juicey, THX for the file! But does this mean that I don't have to use a reg editor? And by just openening the reg file the operator bookmarks will be deleted? THX for your help!
Guest Juicey Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 It means you don't have to search for the registry setting and modify it, but you can just import this file (click on it in file explorer) and it'll be changed. I think you'll still need some sort of registry editor installed to be associated with .reg files, so try install something like PHM (mentioned earlier in this thread) or Resco File Explorer.
Guest guidorist Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 THX again! I did it with PHM reg editor and it worked perfectly. B)
Guest whereizben Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Hi, I am having this problem but with pocket internet explorer - I tried the fix above but had no luck, can any one think of anything to help? I have Windows Mobile 6.1. Thanks! Ben
