Guest holahoo Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 hi everyone, this is my first post here so bear with me... i am not posting a question but rather some information on unlocking the samsung omnia. this information is not mine but from a post of Paul (MVP). so credit him for the info. if you get into a situation like mine then this would help. i live in germany and during the weekend i boughta 16gb omnia from the UK. it was locked to orange. while trying to search for a way to unlock the phone free or otherwise, i found links to many sites that you have to pay to unlock the phone and also found a post written by Paul (MVP) about something that you could try, which is to change the regional settings in the preconfiguration files. so i decided, since me and the phone come from two different regions, to wait for the phone to arrive and try paul's way befor paying the twenty odd euros. the phone arrived today, and the 'hack' (if you can call it that) worked like a charm. so for any one with a similar situation (you and the phone not from the same country) use paul's 'hack'. it does work. the instructions are as follows: to change Change Regional Setting: Press the 'dial' key to the left of the optical pad to bring up the dialer With the onscreen keypad input *#1546792*# Select 'Preconfiguration' Enter code *#81230*# and select OK Select your country, with the default Operator Accept this, DEVICE WILL HARD RESET (need to wait a while without any response, but it will soon be rebooted) in my case, it rebooted on its own twice and worked perfectly. so Paul, if you can hear me: Thank You!!!! and when the phone works, i hope you all enjoy it... Regards, holahoo
Guest Raul6 Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 Good for you  it would be interesting to know if the same would work for other networks
Guest holahoo Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 that i won't know. but i can tell you it was locked to Orange (uk) and now i am using E-plus (germany).
Guest dede99 Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 it didn't work for me, there was this Network Lock and couldn't take it off until I request for the Unlock CODE. There was no other way for me but great to hear it worked for someone :-)
Guest psicopato Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 Hi Everyone, Just to add my experience in trying this method. I've tried to change Portuguese operator from TMN to OPTIMUS and also wasn't possible. The phone even didn't reboot. I've tried with and without SIM card. Maybe it has something to be with different regional settings. Regards
