Do the unnofficial ROMs fix these problems?

Apologies if this information has been posted elsewhere. I have looked but there's a lot of content here

1. When you close an app it isn't shut, it's just punted into the background.

2. When I dial an automated menu system, by the time I've listed to the options and go to 'press #1 for sex' (for example) the touchpad has locked itself and I need to press the 'action' key in order to get the numeric pad up again.

#2 is a pain in the bum, but #1 lost me a load of minutes the other night when I first fired the phone up and played around with google maps.

I mean, c'mon! It's windows ffs, the 'x' in the corner is supposed to close programs.

Constantly having to fire up the task manager to close them off is getting really annoying.

I had a squiz at some of the ROM upgrades on here and I'm tempted to have a little play around but I haven't seen much feedback from anyone upgrading their Orange phone. Having said that I checked and everything is unlocked, I can't find the code to dig out the current ROM version though, a pointer would be useful if anyone can spare the time.

Good forum btw. This is my first new phone in 5 years so I've got shiny new toy syndrome and the honeymoon is being put on hold due to bad weather at the moment (see point 1 above :D )

TIA for any (constructive) replies. That tit called 'ilovegod' or something need not bother, even if he has the answer to life the universe and everything, because coming from him it would just tarnish it, know what I mean? ;)

Simple answer on both counts = No.

#1 try the patcher posted here http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-omnia-h...-lock-in-calls/ and it works great. Thanks Paul.

#2 is a common issue in all win mobiles and some manufacturers try to fix that but their idea of a fix is really not that great. HTC for example have a little x in the corner which u can use to selectively close the running app, Samsung's is almost similar but they bring up a box at the bottom. Samsung's idea is a bit better because it is touch friendly. But generally nothing good that I have seen.

That said, the red key is meant to close but on the omnia or any other that I know of it just suspends (except the phone dialer which it does close). On my HTCs a program I always installed was AE Button Plus, which would remap the red key to actually close and not suspend.

There was one post here about it have some problems with the Omnia but it was not all that informative. But because of that I have hesitated to put it in.

You can read more about the X issue and solution here

Hope this helps.

you can check version no. in Menu>Settings>System>Version

upgrading ROM does not change the windows software so the shutdown of apps, still just minimises, however you can modify the buttons to bring up the task manager at one push, i have the menu button set to do this, bringing up the SPB Shell Task Manager which is much nicer to use. (Comes at part of the SPB Mobile Shell look it up)

With this phone you should really be on an unlimited data tariff to get the most out of it and you should only be charged for data downloaded not time connected???

Im on O2 Simplicity 25 (£20/month) - 600mins 1000txts and unlimited web bolt on free. Perfect for it. Im sure orange has something similar.

There are many bugs with the phone atm some more annoying than others but it is a great phone and it just needs time to iron all the s*** out.

...the 'x' in the corner is supposed to close programs.

Not my work - just passing it on (mods, if I'm out of order please moderate!)

Install cab and look for 'X Button' in settings - don't forget to soft reset.

vp3G_HTC_X_Button_1.5.cab

EDIT: Just realised I posted the wrong file. For the cab above you need to look for another version of 'Task Manager' which can get confusing!

If you want to simplify things and look for 'X Button' you need to install the cab below. Sorry, my mistake!

Thanks to all for the info and advice, I'll have a go at some of these upgrades. including where to find my version

Still. I have to build 3 clustered pairs of firewalls and test them so I don't think it will be today

Cheers,.
