Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 As you can see here... http://www.modaco.com/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=925345 ...we can now cook custom ROMs (many thanks to all who helped us get to this point). The question is, what do we want in / out? I'm currently thinking... IN .net Framework 3.5 Performance Tweaks AppToDate (for update notifications) OUT .net Framework 2.0 Shozu (newer version is available as CAB!) Should anything else be removed? Transcriber? Move some of the things such as RSS Reader / Podcasts to CABs? Google Maps to a CAB to allow 'My Storage' install? Discuss! :D P Windows Update Welcome Center
Guest robertut Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Out: MAIN MENU, DivX VOD Registration
Guest buyukbang Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Since flash lite 3+ the latest Opera were both cooked into the rom, we cannot uninstall them and install their new versions. So we cannot take the full advantage of the flash lite 3, etc. video sites like youtube in Opera. So I think these ones should be updated.
Guest 200mpx Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Don't think that AppToDate in ROM is a good idea or you think that you will not release newer versions?
Guest 200mpx Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 OUT Connected Home Google Maps Podcasts RSS Reader ShoZu Video Editor Messenger Windows Life DivX Registration Windows Update
Guest M Seif Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Don't think that AppToDate in ROM is a good idea or you think that you will not release newer versions? You will make us a big favor to the extend that I will be ready to donate, if you make it easy to uninstall many of the programs listed in the main menus , ALL of us does not use some of them : Touch player - FM radio - Internet -photos slides - media album - ms office components - .... also if you can treat some of the problems found, like not able to use the BT headset with the voice dialer. many thanks in advance .
Guest 200mpx Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 It is only my imho but I don't need widgets too and Today 1 and 2 - I prefer to have standard winmobile today. I t will be great to have a CLEAN rom without all samsung sh... issues
Guest spin_x Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 what i think should be out are: -google launcher -google maps (install in My Storage) -help -IE -Main Menu -Messenger -Podcast -RSS Reader -Shozu -smart Converter -Video Editor -Windows Live by the way, can all the removed files be converted into individual cab for installation later on?
Guest GSeeker2 Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 (edited) OUT Games Connected Home Digital Frame File Explorer Google Laucher Google Maps Help Messenger Podcasts RSS Reader Shozu Smart Converter System Info Tasks Windows Live Opera FlashLite2.1 Samsung Today1(save lot of space) Samsung Widget(save lot of space) and Input Methods! Make them CABs! IN Tweaks .net Framework 3.5 FlashLite3 Thanks Paul! Edited October 14, 2008 by GSeeker2
Guest spin_x Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 one more question. paul can u pls compile a complete how-to guide to cook a ROM.. so that all of us can try and feedback to this thread actively...
Guest 200mpx Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 OUT Touch Player Streaming Player Photo Slides Digital Frame IE (if possible  )
Guest FutureDirt Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 take out EVERYTHING and make all apps (if possible) available as cabs. The Custom ROM can then be a bare bones OS (with tweaks) and people can install what they want, how they want.
Guest Massive Attack Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 how about a slim rom? anything that can be remove will be removed, and the removed apps will be available via cabs?
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 It's gonna be tricky, cos everyone want's different things! My first ROM will just be what I need - most things left in, but size optimised, performance optimised etc... P
Guest robertut Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 And my biggest pain: ClearType disabled by default! Or, at least, remember the setting after soft-reset.
Guest epicurean Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 It's gonna be tricky, cos everyone want's different things! My first ROM will just be what I need - most things left in, but size optimised, performance optimised etc... P Agree with you Paul. Would also like to request working bluetooth drivers to enable full functionality of Microsoft Voice Command.
Guest efjay Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 I too prefer a rom as clean as possible with apps installable as cabs.
Guest Feet Maestro Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 yea clean rom would be good and def Flashlite 3. So much on it isnt used by me and im sure many others
Guest kaer Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 take out EVERYTHING and make all apps (if possible) available as cabs. The Custom ROM can then be a bare bones OS (with tweaks) and people can install what they want, how they want. :D Yes, please cook one slim ROM with no other apps.
Guest bpivk Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 I'm with paul. Except AppToDate. It should be a *.cab.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 No, the whole point of AppToDate is it's in ROM to tell you when ROM updates are available  P
Guest Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Add my vote for the 'Slim ROM' idea - remove as much of the built-in stuff that we don't really use anyway (i.e. File Explorer - who doesn't replace this with Resco anyway?). Out: Games Connected Home File Explorer Google Launcher Google Maps Internet Explorer Main Menu Messenger Podcasts RSS Reader Shozu Windows Live In: .Net CF 3.5 NoData AppToDate OmniaSIP Batti pBar Lightsabre! (come on, admit it, no Omnia should be without it!) Ok so the last one was a light hearted joke but this Slim ROM idea is a belter. I would assume by removing all the bulk from ROM would free up the space they used as internal Storage space?
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Theoretically, we need to verify that the space is actually 'freed up' correctly. Once have the DXHJ1 CSC as a seperate file from Secany, I might post a demo ROM for peeps to check out... P
