USB battery charge problem and GPS

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am experiencing something quite annoying. I can charge the phone with the original cable, with the USB cable connected to a computer but NOT with a USB cable connected to an external USB charger. The USB charger is completely ignored!

Let’s say that you decide to go hiking with the GPS. Since battery dries out quite fast, you should prefer an external charger rather than another battery to avoid stopping the phone and loosing your tracking data. Well, it cannot be done  and I did it without problems with my previous Asus P535.

Do you experience the same thing? Is it a mistake? Is there a (hidden) reason for this behavior? Will this be corrected in a future firmware?

Another topic concerning the GPS… why the telephone must be enabled to use the GPS? Again… “do you experience the same thing? Is it a mistake? Is there a (hidden) reason for this behavior? Will this be corrected in a future firmware?”

Thanks!

Javier

yap... the ori usb cable can only be use on pc only....cos it needs the data signal to turn on the charging signal in the usb cable.... therefor using external / incar charger via the ori cable cannot chg the i900...

i learn it the hard way.... ending with wuite a few incar charger.... :D ;) :o :P new f/w dose not repair this issue.

on GPS issue.... i bellived the gps chipset anttenna circuit and phone singnal circuit are using the same power supply or maybe both r intergraded... there for we can't use it in flight mode ( off phone mode )

just my 3 cents....

I can confirm that (well, it looks the same as mine which works only for charging).

I find my Diamond doesn't seem to charge up in the car if I have GPS and WiFi going at the same time as TomTom. I'm presuming the load on the battery is higher than the charge rate, and the charger gets upset. Could it be similar?

had an earlier HTC device, and car charger would only charge it when the screen was off - I presume down to too much load for the pathetic charger I was trying to use.

You may find that if you have the phone fully charged in the car before hand it will keep it topped up when on charge.

When you go below a certain amount of charge, it doesn't seem to be able to keep it topped up and thus after a while your device will reset.

As you might be able to guess I have had the same issue! Maybe a dedicated charger might help? I dont know what sort of current it draws from the car adapter, but I did hear once that the charge from a wall adapter is 1.0A and if you charge it from a pc its 0.5A.

billou and lastnikita: this one does both: http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...em=200259448652

I have recently bought a car charger, but I don't have it yet. I will let you know if it charges as I hope.

According ktgoh's answers, the charging issue could be resolved by a firmware (I can tell you that even with my Linux computer it only charges if I set the mobile in mass storage mode whilst there is always power out of the USB connector!). Is there someone from Samsung out there that could confirm if they will fix this issue in a future firmware release?

For the phone/GPS issue, it seems that it is an electronic problem <_<
