Sleep/Standby Questions

First, this site is great, already answered some of my questions just searching around. But I'm wondering if anyone can help me with something. I got my phone back from Singapore service yesterday (it was bricked by the previous owner, I'm still not sure exactly what he did to it). But it seems to be working well, just some things I wonder if it's a problem with the phone or just the way the phone is. I have it set to turn off the backlight at 30 seconds, but after 30 seconds it just dims a little bit, not all that noticeable really. Also, I have it set to turn off after 1 minute, but when someone calls it only rings the last two rings of their call by the time it wakes back up. So i tried to have it not turn off at all, in which case the "dimmed" backlight stays on forever unless I tap the power button. Then, if someone calls while I'm not around the phone the backlight comes back on and stays on until I come back to the phone. I've looked through the settings and I don't see a way to fix this. I tried a hard reset, and that didn't change anything. Anyone have any suggestions. (FYI the version is DXHH3/DZHH3) Thanks in advance for any help!
