Bluetooth headsets with LCD/OLED (& Caller ID & Call History) that work nicely with Omnias

Before my Omnia I had an SE w610 "regular" phone, and I was able to speed dial without even looking at my phone... which comes in handy especially while driving or simply multitasking...

But with my Omnia I am having trouble achieving this ease of use... Mainly because (1) the soft-keyed dial pad requires one to be looking at the phone while typing, and (2) there's no voice dialing as of now with the Omina (right?) ...

I currently use a Jabra BT8040 and love it for its small size, but it only helps me (by not having to reach my Omnia in my pocket to dial) when I am in need of dialing the last dialed number... like with 99% of bluetooth headsets out there I think...

So I'm currently searching for a more advanced bluetooth headset... one that allows me to make a cal without taking my phone out of my pocket, and also allows me to see who's calling. I started looking for anything that could help me speed dial, but have only found that there are just a handful of BT headsets that actually carry either a call history and/or a phone book which one can use to dial from the headset by using the headset's LCD or OLED display...

Here are the three top choices I've found (please comment on these if you have tried them or currently own one)... None of these are small (as in BT8040 or Blueant Z9/i):

(1) Blueant V12 - Has the most features: LCD with 12 digit caller id, 10 last recieved calls history, vibrates (not necessary but a +), has every other usual HFP & HSP function, weighs 16g, 360hrs standby

(2) Jabra BT8010 - stereo bluetooth headset, caller id with call history AND an internal 30 contacts phonebook, nice jug wheel... con: Big and Heafty? ... 23 grams (without stereo unit attached), 300hrs standby

(3) Nokia BH-902 - stylish, caller Id & call history (incoming AND outgoing I think), 18 grams, con: 110hrs standby (not too bad, but 2/3 less than the other 2)

I didn't include the Jabra BT800 as its basically the previous version of the BT8010...

Any other suggestions? Have you tried these? Any opinions?

Even in the latest firmware DXHJ1 bluetooth features are not completely functional. The mic on the bluetooth is activated only when an incoming call is answered. To my knowledge no one has been able to initiate a call from bluetooth. I have only tried Aliph Jawbone 2, Motorola H700 & Kyocera GSH300 stereo bluetooth headphones with my Omnia. I am not sure how the bluetooths that you have mentioned will work with Omnia. It would be advisable to try them (if you can) before you buy.

WM phone brings you to the next level where not just voice dialing, but voice command. You can not only to ask the phone to call, but also to start GPS, To start play media etc. by just say it to the phone.

Please get Microsoft Voice Command and install. Then you can do this in the car:-

1. Clamp Omnia to car holder.

2. press one button you chosed , usually the button at the side next to front camera.

3. Say "call mary" or any name you want to call

4. The phone will repeat "call mary" via speaker to confirm

5. You say "Yes" to confirm, the phone will automatically dial for you.

U can do other task too by say it to the phone like

1. "Start Garmin Mobile XT" - the phone will start GPS

2. once you press GO to start navigating, you can say "Play Rihanna" or Madonna" or Artist or genre or whatever to play music while driving and navigating and you can make another call while all these running. without looking at the phone

3. The phone also will read your incoming sms, email, reminder, notification while driving too with it.

To get better effect you can connect audio out to the car aux in, and listen to all these voices and music via car audio speakers.

Of course you cant ask to reply sms or email, maybe in the future when it evolves as voice to text translator etc. But you can always call back to the number who sent you sms. (anyway aint that dangerous to reply sms or email while driving?)

Nevertheless this app still way advance then what you had in W610. And with this i never bother to use bluetooth headset in car.

It is not the BT , it is the Omnia roms till now.

I had the jabra 8040 and was using it like charm with my previous HTC TyTn1 , and Cyberon SW.

The fault is in Omnia. I have read it somewhere that also the Microsoft voice command is not working also.

The test mentioned above in the car is probably due to that the phone hears your command directly from its mic and not via the BT.

If you hold the mobile near your mouth and called some one, it will dial and then you can use your headset.

Exactly... I need the to issue voice commands/voice dialing through the BT headset not through the phone directly... Plus, I can't use the Omnia in a cradle as I live in an area where delinquency is high and I prefer to have it always in my pocket.

So back to the original question, has anyone tried these BT headset models with the Omnia? I'm planning on buyin the Jabra BT8010 as not only I could also use it as a stereo headset, but I believe the caller id can also show the caller's name instead of just the phone number...

I have the Jabra BT8010 and it works ok. With regards to displaying caller names that will only work if you have the names and numbers in the headset phonebook which you can upload from your pc. If not you will only see the caller number. The call list works well though, you can browse through the list of callers and dial the number from there.

As M Self said, there is something in the Omnia that isnt quite right, with voice command installed you can see the phone respond when you initiate a call from your BT headset but you get no sound. Maybe one day Samsung will fix it or someone will hack it to work.

Yup, everytime i press call button on my Moto S9 (Stereo Bluetooth Headset) , microsoft voice command icon appears on top of the screen, but the phone will take voice command via phone's mic and not s9.

So, forget about s9 and i straight away listen via my car audio system. Aint that even better? Can even listen to huge amount of music collection from omnia 16GB via car audio system.

Anyway it is pretty pointless buying a gps phone that has big screen but keep it in the pocket while driving where you can always see immediately calller id and history on that big screen, not another separate small OLED/LCD screen hanging on the shirt. You may hit the car infront while doing that.

Actually BT8040 is NOT compatible with Omnia. Get the BT530 instead.

I must disagree with you Prelude, as I AM using my BT8040 with my Omnia, and have had no problems since day 1

I have order the BT8010... I'll report back when I have tested it.
