Buying an unlocked phone

I will shortly be upgrading my phone (AT&T Q9h) to an HTC Touch Pro. I'd prefer to go with an unlocked version rather than the AT&T version (Fuze). Is setting up the phone as simple as moving the SIM card from the Q to the Touch, or is more required?

Setting a new phone up will require you to enter the network settings if you intend to use the phone for data as well as calls. It's a fairly straightforward job though and some networks or device manufacturers have the settings in a cab format so you can just install them.
