Why is it dangerous to update Omnia ROM ?

Hi everyone,

I don't really get it. Why is it so dangerous to update the ROM of the Omnia ? And moreover, why you don't get a new cellphone back if you brick it during the process ? Just imagine how weird it would be if there would be a risk of destroying your computer everytime you update windows.

Moreover, the samsung website update for omnia doesn't say that there are risk and they say you can use windows vista. Are the ROMs in this website same as the one in MoDaCo ?

Finally, if I understand we can:

- Update Windows Mobile

- Update the ROM

- Customize the theme of the Omnia

- Install Spb Shell and customize this software

Sorry, I'm a bit lost.

Thank you for your help !

I think the safest route that i took was to grab myself a rom from the samsung website and after that had gone perfectly well i was able to grab some of secany's roms and update. it can be risky but i think this route is much safer even though u still have to follow the correct procedure

The thing is that I don't know where my phone comes from. The seller told me that it can come from Europe or Asia so I don't know what to choose in samsung website. But it wasn't really my question ^^

I get the impression early brickings were a bad batch, but with any ROM flash, if you interrupt it, there is a danger of bricking...

What about for us who's PDA updates fine but hangs before updating phone part.

Any opinions on why this could be?
