Guest spy1983 Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Hi I copied IGO8 files to my storage and clicked the autorun from there and it successfully installed the program. Everything is ok, no problem. But it doesnt allow where to copy the files. It just copies some files to My Device, Program Files, IGO 8. So it uses 6 mb of ROM. Is there any tweak that i can install it on my storage, so it wont use my ROM? Also it is not listed on uninstall programs section. Is it normal? Waiting for your reply. Thanks
Guest Neil5459 Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 It adds its own 'Uninstall iGO' link in Programs for some reason. I think it is possible to run iGO from its original location. rather than installing it, but can't be certain! Do you have it running at present?. If so, I belive you can go to the main location and change the name of application.dat to iGO8.exe, then create your own shortcut to this to run it. Make a decent backup first in case it bombs!

Any suggestions? Thanks Regards

Thanks Regards You need to modify the sys.txt file in the main iGO8 folder so that the program knows where to run from. For example, my first line of the sys.txt file (SD Card) reads: [folders] app="%SDCARD%/iGO8" so for you to run it from the internal storage, you need to modify this to: [folders] app="%MyStorage%/iGO8" If you are going to reinstall, only change the sys.txt file in the main iGO8 folder in MyStorage. If you already have it installed, you will need to ALSO change the sys.txt file which is located in the program folder. Hope this helps, been running iGO8 now for over 2 weeks and it beats TomTom hands down (just because i couldn't even get TomTom to get a lock)!!. Laterz DF
Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 DF out of interest, does the text to speech work in iGO8 on the omnia?
Guest datafanatic Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 DF out of interest, does the text to speech work in iGO8 on the omnia? Oh yes. I'm using a TTS voice file that someone modified from TomTom 7, her name is Kate. I haven't travelled far enough to check her out fully :D , but around my area, she correctly says things like 'at the end of the road, turn right onto Station Road/Park Lane/Canterbury Rd', whatever the name of the road is infact. The only thing i have noticed is that when you go onto a major road, she says 'A28' or 'B2048', and not 'Canterbury Rd West' or 'Acol Hill' but that could be normal. Have to laugh at some of her pronounciations though ;) Laterz DF
Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Hmmm ... I'll give it a bash ... but will wait a while as Im off to Germany and Netherlands this week and dont want to bork my device!

Laterz DF  I thnk the OP meant he wanted to install the application files to My Storage rather than into device Memory; these are the Program Files/iGO8 fils that the installer places by default into main memory. Your advice relates to the full package contents, which I think he already has in My Storage. The Program Files/iGO8 files do take up a lot of space in Device Memory, and they are not really needed. On my Diamond I have no iGO stuff installed in device memory- as I suggested above, I renamed 'application.dat' in the full iGO content folder to 'iGO8.exe' then created a shortcut to this file in Programs, and it works fine. The sys.txt file must point to the location that the main files are installed to, as you suggest. Another option for the OP would be to simply copy the iGO8 folders from Device Memory to My Storage, then remove the Programs shortcut, and remake it pointing to the new location. iGO doesn't use any registry entries, so this ought to work fine.

Yes that what i need. Isnt there a solution for a clean install? Like the one above? By the way thanks Neil for the detailed reply. Regards

By the way thanks Neil for the detailed reply. Regards What I suggested above is a 'Clean Install' Assuming you currently have an iGO8 folderin main memory, of about 6MB, and an iGO8 folder in My Storage of 100MB plus, and it works correctly, I suggest the following: Make a backup copy of the contents of the folder in Device Memory, and the files, but not folders in the iGO8 section in My Storage as a precaution. Now, copy sys.txt from the folder in Device Memory to the iGO8 folder in My Storage. You can now just delete the whole iGO8 folder from Device Memory. Also, go to Windows/Start Menu/Programs and delete the iGO entry. Now go to the iGO folder in My Storage and rename 'application.dat' to 'iGO8.exe'. If you now open File Explorer again, and navigate to the iGO8 folder in My Storage, you should be able to find the igo8.exe file, and tap (or double tap) it to see if it opens iGO correctly. If it does, then you can simply remake the shortcut by a copy/paste shortcut operation back to Programs. If it doesn't work, then you can just copy your earlier backups to their original locations and ask for further instructions

Use a File Explorer like Resco or Total Commander that displays the file extension so you know which file to work with. Locate igo8.exe and tap/hold its entry, then select 'copy' from the context menu. Now navigate to My device/Windows/Start menu/Programs and go to Menu/Paste Shortcut. This will place a shortcut in the Programs group. Sometimes at is called 'shortcut to igo8', sometimes just iGO8, depending on which program you use. if the former, you can go to the Start Menu/Programs folder, find the entry and Tap/Hold it then rename to remove the 'shortcut to' prefix.

Thanks . That work ok . Now i saved 6MB in the device memory. I just had to keep the same shortcuts names as were before when pointing to device memory. The only small problem is that in settings -> today > items when i check on the IGO8 it couldn't be operated from the Samsung Today 2 screen . Probably it still points to device memory . Where in the windows it keeps the items list ? I want to change the shortcut there too. Edited October 24, 2008 by vlodek

One more question. After soft reset it takes some longer time to get the GPS fix. But after that the next activation of IGO8 it get the fix quick. It seems like it is keeping the last GPS fix in some place . Any idea where ?
Guest Neil5459 Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 Sorry- I don't know how the Omnia GPS chip is arranged. On HTC Qualcomm devices, there is an on-chip GPS cache which stores the last known position, so if you restart in roughly the same location and within a couple of days, its is quite quick. This survives both soft and hard resets. With both my Diamond and X7500 cold starts are about 2 minutes and warm starts about 10-30 seconds. Re your other query- I'm not sure if it's possible to modify the Today plug-in; one of the drawbacks of this installation method. Can't say any more as I don't use the Today plug-in anyway

Thanks a lot in advance You need to clear about 6-7MB of space in internal memory first, then install using the original SD card. Once installed, you can copy the folder structure, and modify locations as above, changing the sys.txt location entry as appropriate.

Guest Neil5459 Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 Hi, I want to ask somethig relevant, do we need to use GPSgate with IGO8?? My Igo not able to find my gps place but it says gps active?? any advice?? If the GPS Settings screen within iGO says 'Connected' and if you see the pulsating bar at the bottom of the GPS Status screen, it would seem that iGO has found the GPS receiver. GPSGate should not be necessary. Apart from the usual advice about going outside with a clear view of the sky for up to 15 munutes to obtain a 1st fix, I don't know what else to suggest. Other posts do seem to suggest that the Omnia's GPS receiver is quite poor, and needs the assistance of the A-GPS features included with it (GPS Extra?); I don't have an O, so can't comment further.
Guest saverio Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 Hi, One very important note when installing iG 08, is that you must make sure that you have the phone in lanscape mode. The programme won't boot in portrait mode. I had similar issues, but installed it into my storage with the phone turned landscape and it all went very smoothly. I still have two application icons in my programmes folder and the unistall icon !?!
Guest Andrejsxe Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 Hi, I need some help. I have download IGO 8.3.1 and copy to MyStorage (folder 2577; IGO8). I also changed the sys.txt in the line as you adviced. SDCARD -> MyStorage. After that I installed the igo. I launched the program but is says "Program application database cannot be found. Please insert original application SD card." I have no idea what to do. By the way, I have Samsung Omnia i900. Please reply.

This is where the installer will attempt to query the files from and this is where they are saved at on your omnia.
