Guest xteph1973 Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Hello, I've been having this problem since the beginning. I have updated with roms h1, hh1, CH5, HJI, and the new custom rom, and only in the CH5 rom (portuguese it didn't happen) but then there were problems with the sound and freezes (altough no black screens). Could we have a poll or whatever so that we can find out if it's only a small percentage that faces this problem or if it's a general problem. In case it's a general problem we could even contact samsung and show them this poll so that they fix this very annoying problem. Tks Xtp

Tks Xtp Are you talking about the screen of death issue where the screen stays black? If so, this is due to a service (Device.exe) going into a CPU grabbing loop. This service will grab as much CPU as it can get and keep it causing the omnia to appear dead.... its not, its just REALLY busy. Eventually, if you hang on, you can get the device to wake up. I eventually got into task manager to identify this but it took me over 15minutes. The trick is to remember that this service is related to device drivers. Whilst you cannot eliminate device driver calls (how would your phone ring, your screen turn on or the keypad work!?) you can limit then as a temporary measure: Turn off extra device calls such as vibration, lights, message alerts etc. i know its a pain but it will help. I managed to reduce from 7 or 8 locks a day to 1. However ..... This has been largley fixed with the HJ5 rom.... I have now only had this once in the three days I have had a HJ5 rom. This is a significant improvement but its not gone. This makes me wonder how pre-emptive the multitasking is and how usefull the MMU is if one CPU grabbing task can bring the whole phone down.
Guest broughs Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Never had this problem in any of the roms I have used Stu
Guest Yunabeco Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 I have this (What's described in #2) a lot. And that's when device.exe is not outright crashing.

Guest stuzathegreat Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 I have this (What's described in #2) a lot. And that's when device.exe is not outright crashing. How do you know? What have you done to diagnose your issue? How do you know its not device.exe and what do you think it is? Simply saying its not your issue isn't very helpful. Try to give a little more info and diagnosis. Whatever was/is your problem, having to spoken to Samsung over the phone a few times regarding the BSD. I don't know if my diagnosis has been used but the device.exe issue has now been seriously reduced in HJ5 - i like to think in part because of the info I have supplied them. I suspect they have updated the drivers and corrected whatever errors there were causing it as its unlikely that device.exe will be directly causing the issue. Just for the record, Toshiba G900's had the same problem and again, this was fixed with a firmware issue. Broughs, your very lucky - most people do experience it.
Guest Yunabeco Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Woah, hold. My issue is the screen staying black for a while after sleeping and the hanging CPU Maybe it's due to device.exe, but another separate issue is device.exe randomly crashing when I rotate the device (though I suspect it's due to me messing up with my registry; didn't happen for a while). I'm currently updating to Paul's Custom DTHJ5. If you have indeed participated to the fix of the Sleep of Death, let me thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Guest Ashy87 Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 i've had this issue at the beginning, XXHG5, i solved the problem (touch wood) by setting wake mode to power button only which does suit me best anyway. when i had it set to any button i had the issue 3-4 times a day but now i have none. have used HI3 and now HJ1 with no problems but i have always put it in power button to wake first thing after reset so i cannot compare as far as ROM versions go. hope this helps and maybe some could give it a try.
Guest stuzathegreat Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Woah, hold. Wasn't having a go mate .... just your first post is very diferent from the second, can you see the diference?
Guest Loizos Harous Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 i'm having this problem too. at first times i was having it a lot, then some friend of mine tells me that was the buttery and if i get a Chinese buttery this problem will be solved as his. so i did, i bought a Chinese buttery an since then i had it twice from Tuesday and that's it was when my buttery goes to 30-35% and the two times.
Guest Reuben (MY) Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 i notice it's from alarm... when i'm not using alarm it never appear, but once i set any alarm, i got all black screen with the power led flashing after 1 hour from alarm time.
Guest gavzter Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 there are no solutions that sem to work for everyone.. see this thread for more discussion and solutions which work for different people: http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-omnia-h...creen-of-death/ Gavin
