Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Since custom ROMs seem to be getting quite popular, you'll notice they now have their own area, so as not to completely take over the main forum. Depending on how this pans out, I might switch it to a more general Omnia ROM discussion area (all ROMs, not just custom ones). Feedback appreciated! P

P i dont think its a good idea because ... ... just a couple of people cook rom's that more peoples can cooking roms they have to know how it works i requested a couple of times a walkthrough but it itn't published yet and i dont think this will be published in future common questions are: - extracting exe files - removing software - add software - cooking especially point 2 and 3 is requested very often but no answer
Guest efjay Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 The whole point of a dedicated rom area is that it given a single point for all rom related updates, questions and issues without clogging up the main forum where simple questions like what are the best camera settings get lost. I think its a good idea for this reason.

It has been frustrating to look through lots of topics to find the custom ROM threads. Thank you.
Guest msjfb Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 I fully agree with this dedicated section.. May I suggest that we adhere to this: each author of a cooked ROM has his own thread so that we can discuss that ROM specifically. Fianlly, people wishing to cook their own ROMs should go over to XDA and read the (numerous) threads on kitchens and cooking. Very informative. Until we get (and I doubt it) a application that allows us to pick and choose what we want to include in a ROM and then flash it, I think we should let the experts prepare the ROMs.

Thank you. Totally agree, So much easier knowing if your looking for ROM updates and threads its in a centralised place.
Guest saznpins Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 I think it's a great idea, much easier to keep track of all the different ROMs if they have a separate area

Guest PaSSoA Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 Good move, it shouldn't clog up the main discussion area.
Guest bobobird Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 Go for it. But on the other hand my wish is that cooks (despite all their hard work and sharing with the community) seem to have opinions of their own about what should or should not go in or be taken out. Very much like those personalised OS distributions, one man's meat is not necessarily another man's meat. For example what isnt there, dont add to it unless there is an upgrade component eg flash 3.1. For what is there provide an alternative to reinstalling the same to sd or large storage. But is flash a core OS component? Of course not. It is a 3rd party component and should be treated as such ie an addon. See how things can get confusing ?? Eg should Office be removed? Yes of course, since there are cabs floating around that lets one install to storage. I hope people get the drift - anyone up to to doing a lean, mean, clean rom? I would if I knew how. My 2cents.
Guest nollie Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 Fantastic change. Much easier to distinguish between threads now, rather than sifting through all the others.
Guest Alex Alex Alex Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 although not often a fan of subforums, i agree with this change as interesting rom information (and regular posts) were dropping off from the front page far too quickly. in fact, i'd go one step further and make it the omnia rom forum so that includes all posts about roms, not just custom ones. there's loads of posts about bricked systems, is this rom better than that rom, etc etc which are pushing down less technical posts very quickly.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 Yup, I think i'm gonna make it ALL posts about ROMs... P
