Guest dasa Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 Hi guys this may be a long shot but someone may be able to do it, I was thinking about the iPhone proximity when in a call and maybe using the omnia hardware to pull of a similar thing maybe use the light sensor and the giro to turn the screen off when in a call, The light sensor will adjust as it will not be getting much light due to it being on your face coupled with the giro to stop the screen from going blank when you hold it in your hand as it will not be in the wright orientation and will receive more light, just a crazy idea your views on this? Is this even possible?
Guest finaldestiny Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 Why exactly would you want this though? Doesn't the screen automatically lock when your phone receives a call? :s Yes, I believe it would be possible, but i'm not sure why someone would create an application to do that, especially on the omnia which, in my opinion, operates as it should when it receives a call..... - most of the time anyway <_<

Guest nollie Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 Not sure if this application would be necessary, as the keypad should lock when you answer a call (if setting is enabled) and the screen should also turn off within a certain period of time within a phone call.
Guest Stealth69 Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 Agreed, my phone locks itself and turns the creen off ten seconds in to a call and to get the screen back on and unlock it simply press the center black button. Good setup I feel..... Iphone... Pah!!
Guest Pille69 Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 Agreed, my phone locks itself and turns the creen off ten seconds in to a call and to get the screen back on and unlock it simply press the center black button. Good setup I feel..... Iphone... Pah!! whit the black middle button you can unlock the phone to every time and use every apps which you want just try it
Guest finaldestiny Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 Tested Pille69's suggestion and it worked like a charm. Then I didn't press anything and 5 seconds later the screen auto locked itself again
Guest samjuan Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 Tested Pille69's suggestion and it worked like a charm. Then I didn't press anything and 5 seconds later the screen auto locked itself again  and then when you want to enter anything again you will have to press the middle button to activate the screen and again to unlock, the trick is you have to be fast in what you should do or else it will lock again in the next 5 seconds!!! I was wondering, did any of the Samsung guys try this while in a call? are they really fine with it? really?

Yes i know that just wanted it to do it automatically, as it gets annoying if you phone voda and have got to listen to what number you've got to press to get through to a department you want, It's got the hardware why not the software.
Guest krash_control Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 Yes i know that just wanted it to do it automatically, as it gets annoying if you phone voda and have got to listen to what number you've got to press to get through to a department you want, It's got the hardware why not the software. I haven't looked into the exact method that the iPhone uses (or rather I can't remember but I did read up on it). Anyway the technology is patented by Apple so you can't write an app to do the same thing without consequences. I also agree that the lock is annoying when you have to enter option but Paul has written an app to disable it :)
Guest Maxwell Newton Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 i would download this if someone did it, its really irritating having to unlock it everytime if you need to do something on a call, would be so handy if it just did it automatically as described in post 1! Great idea, i hope someone takes it up!!
Guest aleis Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 why dont yall just use the other dialer? i use it, and after 30 seconds it turns the screen off. but thats how i set it. you can set it to never turn off. i dont get it...
Guest sabestian Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 aleis, what don't you get? Using delays is a very primitive workaround to the lock-in-call issue. 30 seconds? I can do so many things using my cheek during that time! Not deliberately, of course. If I had a proximity lock my life would be much easier. I stick it to my ear- it's locked, I need to press 2 - it's unlocked and the backlight is lit, etc. It's really self-explanatory.
