Could someone please give me detailed instructions on how to perform clear storage on my sp5m. Also is it possible to update my OS from Windows 5.1 to 6.0 , if yes then how?

A hard reset will wipe the phone of all data you have installed including contacts etc.

Remember to back up your data first.

Instructions for a hard reset can be found here http://wiki.modaco.com/index.php/HTC_Tempo

As for a WM6 update, there is no official update for the Tempo device but there may be an unofficial update at places like XDA Developers but remember any unauthorised update can have a potential to brick the device. Chances can be slim but it is still worth pointing out.

Thanks for the quick reply, but I have already visited the page, the problem is that my camera button is broken, so I can't enter the bootloader in the first place. One more thing, by the soft keys you mean the topmost left (start ) and the topmost right key (contacts), right?

Yep that is correct for the soft keys.

With the camera button broken this poses a slight problem as you need to be in bootloader to flash from memory?

Are you sure the button is faulty or is it a software issue?

Thanks for the reply! ;)

Actually in my case, the outer body actually started coming out form the side, I mean the actual metal straps starting peeling off :o ! I admit mine is a rare case but I guess it was a manufacturing defect. Anyways the guys who tried to repair it broke off the button and here comes the funny part, to hide their 'craftsmanship' from me, they actually glued the button in the slot  ! ( This happens only in India :P !! ) So there it is, you know my entire story now. The worst part is that the camera button is now perpetually pressed and I have to close the camera from the task manager every time I power on my device :D ! On a serious note, isnt there any other way to perform hard reset?

Check in the Accessories folder, you may have a icon for "clear storage" this will partial reset but that is the only other option as far as I am aware.

You could try and take the phone apart to unglue the camera button.

Did clear storage, had to, the memory was clogged by silly apps, phone is back in pristine condition and apps run fast again

thanks to you  and Modaco.

Also could you throw light on how to take the phone apart, especially since the body is glued?

Depending what they have actually glued you can find a few different guides here

The phone is a basic sort of design and has had similar methods for dismantling since the C500.

You may even be able to search the internet for a replacement case, but as the phone is getting quite old now it may be hard to find. Ebay is one good place to start.

You should be able to Flash a new ROM without needing the camera button to go into Bootloader mode. BUT if anything goes wrong you would need to enter Bootloader manually which you can't do without the camera button. For this reason I would not recommend trying to flash.

Normally I am the first to say that it is almost impossible to brick a phone by flashing but that is because if things go wrong you can almost always recover if you can get into bootloader - if you can't then it is too risky IMHO.
