Guest nicekate Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 I'm looking for a really simple pedometer based on the accelerometer thingy of the Omnia. I tried GPSpedorunner and found it doesn't actually count your steps (it measures distance and time travelled), and in fact doesn't seem to work unless you have GPS enabled, which I can't get my (French) service provider to do. So does anyone know of a simple app that will just count steps??? I am starting a job that has 100 hour workweeks next week, I want to make sure I get some exercise in...

I don't know of pedmeter software but GPS is not a service provider feature. It uses satellites and the phone receiver so (apart from the xtra service which is optional) you don't need anything from your service provider
Guest nicekate Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 Ahh well they told me I could not get hotmail (other emails OK) or GPS cuz they don't sell exactly my phone (really close though the player addict looks the same but is smaller and I don't think it has PDA functions). I could try it though. Isn't it possible to have a pedometer without using GPS?

You really should learn a bit more about the technology of your phone. If you are going to own something like the Omnia then you should know that you are getting two different features mixed up. The GPS on the Omnia is internal, it does not rely on your provider at all. It is a Global Positioning System (GPS) and works by getting it's Global Position from Satellites. GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) needs to be provided/switched on by your mobile network and it is a form of data transfer. Therefore, GPSpedorunner should work quite easily on your Omnia.

GPS can be a service issue. On the i910 before the CC20 or CF03 updates were released, the gps function was locked. But you might want look in some of the forums and see if you can activate it through the normal procedures or see if you need to flash to a compatible rom. Your provider may have also been talking about aGPS which is basically a location service which triangulates your position using cell phone towers. I don't know if the accelremoters on our phones are something as precise that you would want for a pedometer. I have some accelorometer apps that involve jumping up and down, that don't work quite as well as you would expect, and that could possibly be bad programming, but its been pretty consistently bad. You might want to check out http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ and see if they have anything. Also google is a good resource because so many winmo apps are spread out on the web, and not always located on one particular site. Edited February 12, 2010 by Abqcub
