Being a total newbie to Windows Mobile, I have read many posts about ROM. Just wondering what is it? Why are the benefits and how do i know if I need it or not? I know it would be a stupid question <_< but still i am confused.

Aneeliyo, you do not "need" to update, but it's generally good to update to a more stable rom. To better understand what a rom is, let me give you an example. Say, you buy a laptop from HP, Dell, or whatever, usually manufacturers put softwares (which most people call bloatwares) on windows, they are supposed to give you easier access to different settings on your laptop, but most advanced people would prefer to format the drive and put in a clean version of windows because those softwares usually decrease your laptop's performance because some of the programs runs in the background, and some you will never even use it but it still take up your hard drive space. Advanced users prefer a clean installation and decide which software they want to use (just like some people prefer itunes, some prefer winamp.)

In our case, we flash custom roms to remove some of the programs we don't use at all, and some roms provide bug fixes. For me, I usually wait for someone to release a completely light rom, wait for others to confirm it works, and decide if the update is worth the risk of flashing a new rom because there IS a chance you'll brick your $700 phone. Hope this helps and correct me if I'm wrong. Good luck.

wingw, many many thanks that was the wonderful explaination. Now I got it what is ROM but is this ROM a country pacific? because one of the links here took me to samsungmobile site where I had to select my country but My country (Thailand) is not listed there. So does it mean that ROM does not support my country? If it is not country specific, then can you recommend what ROM should I install? If I install, will all my programs in Omnia gone? Thanks again...
