Guest Crispy 78 Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 I've seen much reviews about the Samsung Omnia. All said it was fantastic.... so I bought one. It is a fantastic phone, it's looks are very nice. The 8Gb of memory, that I extended with another 8Gb, is fantastic. The built in FM-radio is great, the camera has nice features like 5 megapixels, smile detection, mozaik or panoramic pictures, etc. I't clock works great as an alarmclock, you can convert anything you like (kilograms to grams, cm to inches, etc.). If you like podcasts it comes with a podcast-program, for webviewing you've got Opera 9.5 and the good-old Internet Explorer. So many great features it's a wonderfull phone. Why wish you'd never bought one then? Because what you can't do with this fantastic phone is make or recieve a call. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7f3M09NZDC4 I've posted a video when my Omnia was laying on a desk (will post a longer one when I get the chance). You can see the cellphone status. I don't have a signal jammer on my room or something. The phone went from a full reception to no reception (I quit the recording to early, it couldn't find a cellphone network a few minutes later.) Reguarly I recieve sms messagers from my operator telling me someone tried to call me and didn't leave a message on my voicemail. A Samsung Service Center has supplied me with it's newest ROM and that is: PDA: i900XKHH8/XKHH4 Phone: i900XXHH9 But that ROM is still as crappy as the old one. I had an HTC TyTN and was thinking of buying the HTC Diamond, but I thought the Omnia was nicer (larger display, nicer design, etc.). If I knew then what I know now, I think I bought the Diamond instead of the Omnia. So that was my complaint. Hoping someone at Samsung will read it an provide us all with a decent radio-ROM.

Guest chokia Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 I wonder if nowadays one ever practise to make and receive call whenever buying a new phone? Omnia cant make a call , that's really a joke. and only you have this problem.
Guest Hendrickson Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 don't you know how to answer? push the green key... oh and update that rom
Guest dark_spice Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 Okay, this seemed a bit exaggerated, IMHO. It's an isolated case, that is. And I would just ask for a replacement instead of going to YouTube for it or posting on the forums. That way, for sure I'll have a working OMNIA in no time.
Guest 3shirts Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 (edited) So sell it and stop whining Edited October 28, 2008 by 3shirts
Guest zkyevolved Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 Return it. I don't know where you bought it, but all phones sold here have a 30 day warranty for defects and even if you don't like it (as long as it's in good condition). Return it!
Guest Omnia_1 Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 The phone is great! best phone on PPC WM I have ever used! I agree and am sorry for you, it must be an isolated case. Check a comparison between Omnia and HTC HD, the Omnia is still ahead in a few aspects, check it out here
Guest samjuan Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 Post a video of two phones one of them is the Omnia, both using the same carrier, and let's see how the signal is on both. If the Omnia is the phone acting funny, then you will have to return it and get a new one. Things are not always perfect, that is why we have warranty!!! right? and guys, please be nice to other members, this is his first post, plus I would be pissed finding out that my Maserati cannot shift to gear one!
Guest Mrhoffmann Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 I have no problems with my omnia. Maybe the problem is Vodafone (i have kpn)?
Guest Dr Nicky Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 I have no problems with my omnia. Maybe the problem is Vodafone (i have kpn)? My OMNIA is on Vodafone and I have no problems what so ever. I must say that this is the most stable multi-functional phone I have ever had (and I have had a few). It looks like you had the runt of the litter; just send it back for a replacement.
Guest Crispy 78 Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 Thanks for all the comments. I'd better contact Samsung and claim my warranty then.
Guest zkyevolved Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 I love this phone  except for the battery life. I'm actually taking off my data plan to keep it from dying after a day! I don't like that :D
Guest Hydroxpert Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 probably an isolated case...exchange it for another omnia
Guest anubi1126 Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 Agreed the omnia is pretty good i too am on vodafone uk and dont have any probs my version is i900xxhhd/achh3 so mine needs updating but at the mo its very stable
Guest Compuse Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 Comparing to other WM devices; this one rocks for sure! (crappy GPS maybe) To bad for those that may experience it differently .. they shouldn't have bought a Pocket PC
Guest kmc319 Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 I'm going to add my praise to the Omnia too. WM phones seem to be getting and better but the Omnia is the best phone I've had and I rattle through them! Part of the reason I got it was the enthusiasm for it on here. Got the Omnia a month or so after I got a Touch Pro and it is the first phone I've had that does everything I want. The FM radio is superb and gets a signal where some standalone FM radios I've got fail to. The phone side just works, in fact the whole thing just works - and doesn't need fiddling with to get it to work. I ordered an Xperia as a very cheap upgrade on a Voda contract last week. I'm still waiting for it but I'm in no real hurry as when it turns up I'm not sure I'll even use it much because I doubt it'll be better than the Omnia.
Guest lohasc Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 I found the omnia Phone signal is better than my Kaiser or my Atom. So I believe it's a isolated case. Just get a replacement.
Guest B12 Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 I am now on my 4th Omnia on VodaFone and they all have done exactly the same thing ... the signal strength goes up and down ... then when its on your hand it goes to n/a I do live in a poor reception area but my N95 would have full strength all the time .. I religiously flash my phone with each new rom that’s comes available and am currently on DXHJ1 I am beginning to wish I never got this phone as well ....
Guest Tech Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 1) I recently bought an omnia. I am happy and I can make or recieve calls ALL the time. 2) Battery life could be improved. I got the omnia which has 16GB storage 3) I wish I can set IE as the default browser
Guest Crispy 78 Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 I've got my Omnia replaced for another one. Still I have the same problems. I'm going to enjoy this phone though. Maybe I got some bad terrestrial radiation, feng shui or something. Hope that Samsung will improve the reception within time. Still I believe the iPhone-killer is overrated.
Guest B12 Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 as I said before , I am on my 4th Omnia on VodaFone and they all have done exactly the same thing ... the signal strength goes up and down ... then when its on your hand it goes to n/a In fact I have noticed that it does this even in areas where signal is fantastic like the centre of london !!!
Guest Quist09 Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 There's a number of things this could be due to. There is always a slim chance that you got two duds in a row (or in the case of B12 four), but it could also just be the ROM you're on or your network. Right after the first time I flashed my phone with a new ROM for the first time, I had the same thing happen to me. The signal fluctuated then suddenly disappeared. A few minutes later it returned only to lose it's signal again after ten minutes. I panicked and cursed like a drunken sailor for a good 30 minutes. Then it occurred to me to check my wife's phone (an LG Viewty - completely different make/model etc) and double check with my Nokia N95 8GB (notorious for good connectivity). I discovered that it was my network. Called my provider twice and within 24 hours it was fixed. This scenario repeated itself twice in the ensuing month and each time my provider thanked me for my vigilance. Turned out they were tweaking the base station layout and the micro base station on my block wasn't keeping up.
