Ok, so I got tired of sitting around waiting for others to get anywhere with this and started looking around. As those of us who've looked into it know, one recent effort at xda resulted in a Mortscript that disables TouchFlo as a today item when it detects a rotation. Problem there is the delay faced in re-initializing M2D everytime portrait orientation is restored. Also, you need to come up with your own today item for landscape (and make it look good with your M2D theme concept).

Looking through the available M2D themes/skins, I found this from btprice2001:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...;postcount=1680

He's added a landscape background image with index 227 and added it to this line in the xml file of the tabwidget:

Then he's made a (from what I can see failed) attempt at adjusting the home screen to support landscape, but then did an excellent job on the weather tab.

He also updated the title bar png with a longer one to fit his landscape screen.

Looking at what he's done and the proposed xml file changes to adjust things to the Omnia layout in the other Manila 2D thread (and Passoa's rom thread), I managed to get landscape kind of working.

I got my own background png's to switch on the tabs, but still have trouble with the home screen. I also managed to get the slider to reposition from portrait to landscape. The latter is a big step, since the times I got stuck with a landscape view on M2D before, I had to switch to portrait to be able to do anything. Now, at least I can slide and the softkeys for each tab work as they should.

I also used btprice's weather changes, adjusted them to the Omnia and got a pretty good weather tab that works well in both portrait and landscape.

Now, I feel like I'm drowning in the xml.

Essentially, it should theoretically be possible to make adjustments to all of the layout references in the xml to get M2D to adjust to a rotation to landscape and present pretty nicely. Only problem is, that some of those references use an (x1, y1, x2, y2) positioning and others use (x1, y1, width, height). Also, the position references that only refer to a portrait layout should also be able to be supplemented with landscape layout info, e.g. changing (px1, py1, px2, py2) to (px1, py1, px2, py2, lx1, ly1, lx2, ly2), but I'm not sure if this really works in all cases.

Anyway, here's some snaps of my M2D in landscape mode where my successes and failures to date are apparent. If you've tried any of this yourselves and wouldn't mind posting your findings, please let us know.

To get the slider in the right position I have these three first lines in my tabwidget:

I also changed the declaration line at the top of the file to

I've made so many changes to my xml otherwise, that I unfortunately don't have a "clean" one to post here, but may try to get one up in the next couple of weeks unless someone beats me to it.

Oh yeah, the programs tab actually worked excellently without any real changes other than fixing the slider and title bars.

I'm afraid I can't help you out, but your work looks amazing! Only thing stopping me from permanently updating to Manilla is its limitations to portrait mode.

Any update on this topic, seems promising. Just wondering if there any integrated solution for this landscape background problem.

Actually Herg (M2D port/er) is about to release landscape support over at XDA.

Keep us posted on the progress over there.

Weather looks pretty good and program launcher works great without adjustment. Sector's been playing with landscape too, but there's all kinds of obstacles popping up. We'll be sure to post something here as we make more progress.

Could you give me your HTCHomesettingd.xml please  , I've done the few changes that you mentionned in your post, and so weather tabs, programm tabs, and pictures tabs don't work as fine as I can see your screenshot lol ^^.

So it looks like i missed something ^^.

You can see my post towards the bottom of this page:

It has a Word compare/merge that highlights the changes I made. Mind you, this was for the first version of Passoa's ROM. Let me know if your using the second and I'll post my latest xml.

Strange. Remember, anytime you make changes to M2D you need to disable TouchFLO in the Today item settings, make the changes then re-enable TouchFLO.

Not sure what else to tell you. It works everytime for me and is confirmed elsewhere.

What skin are you using? If you're on Passoa's latest M2D rom with his standard skin, I can send you my xml file which will work with it.

Yeah, send me you file please B)

Sorry I dropped the ball on this one. In the mean time, I upgraded to M2D03FIX. If your there, you might try this xml (it may work with the M2D02 as well), just make sure you save the xml you got somewhere if it doesn't work.

HTCHomeSettings.xml

Hi guys, I'am also waiting for a proper landscape mode for M2D03FIXwith an xml. Thats the only thing holds me to install M2D03FIX.

And maybe a silly question but does M2D03FIX works with landscape opare which is a real iportant issue?? And also other things like landscape phote viewing etc..?? If these are running good, I wont wait to install M2D03FIX.B)B)

Thanx

Yeah, the current M2D roms do everything other than the touchflo menu in landscape fine. I view pictures, watch videos in coreplayer and play games in landscape.

Sorry for the delay in an update folks.

Basically we've run into a wall with the current version of M2D. The .xml I posted earlier works fine for me, but basically it just pulls the slider up to the right place and supports the Weather tab shift to landscape (the Programs tab worked automatically). The other tabs (widgets) don't interact with the .xml as is posted elsewhere, meaning that adding layout positioning data in the .xml for landscape has no effect. This basically means that you could adjust the .xml to suit portrait or landscape, but not both dynamically.

I haven't worked on it for a while, but I've not seen any other progress beyond this. One person over at xda did a version for landscape only, but I'm not sure how he kept it from autorotating to portrait when closing a program.

So there we stand. Until a whole new version of M2D comes out with full landscape support, we're in a holding pattern.

Thanks, Quist09, for all your work.  I've been following this thread for the past month.

By the way, what'd you do to get that taskbar with open programs showing tabs in the screenshots you posted?  Looks good...
