Hi all,

I have seen a number of references to SPB mobile Shell on the website. having had a quick look on their website the price is hardly going to break the bank (even if the exchange rate is getting worse!)

My concern however is that if I install it I totally break my phone!!

So my question is this, how many people use it? Would you recomend it? Is it easy to install are there any downsides I should be aware of and how do I get rid of it if I hate it or run into problems?

It works fine :D but some others have reported battery drain issues.

No Problems for me, i have only installed on a trial licence so far but it is working perfectly. I have found some great themes at the following link

http://www.imarche.net/omnia/index.php

which make the spb mobile shell even better, i will probably buy it when the trial runs out.

Works fine here, started using the little Spb Watcher "plugin" to totally get rid of the home screen. Haven't noticed any battery drain yet.

Oh, one more thing; if you want to access the USB-to-PC icon in the settings/connections, I've noticed it's not present in Mobile Shell for some reason. Either use the Start Menu & Settings or browse to it (\Windows\USBtoPC.exe, hidden/system)

I had it installed for about two weeks before I decided to remove it to be honest.

Was getting massive battery drain, to the point of charging it every day.

Back on Samsung Today 2 and battery is lasting two days with standard usage.

It could be either the shell or my ROM version.

Maybe if I update it in the near future I'll try it again.

I've done the same. Ditched Spb Shell for Samsung 2 and a cut down iLauncher. Not one lock up since then.

I use it with the skins posted above and its been good as gold for me, lasts a couple of days on average usage and no lock ups or cashes to speak of

So on the whole it looks like it's a bit like marmite, some people love it, some hate it.

Is it easy to get rid of if I install and then decide I don't like?

yes it is easy to deinstall.

i installed and deinstalled it a couple of times to test it and i have had no problems.

you might want to go to today and disable all the spb plugins before deinstalling.

works very stable on my omnia with no batterydrain at all

standard very fast, with iphone skin still very fast but a bitslower

al the animation however goes very smooth, no more sluggish wm6.1 crap.

So on the whole it looks like it's a bit like marmite, some people love it, some hate it.

When I came across this I was afraid the SPB shell v2.1.2 caused the battery drain (actually never had a good reference since I updated to DXHH3 just a few days after getting the phone and installed a trial SPB shell a few days after). So yesterday I removed the SPB shell, fully charged the phone overnight. Here what I observed after:

1) The battery indicator (Samsung Today 2) showed a full bar :D instead of 90% when the SPB showed 100% :o .

2) Only 1/2 hour of GSM phone call (random), , which is about the same as with the SPB shell, that gives me more love for the Omnia :P (finger gesture swipe and cool flipping or other selectable animated page changing). For US$30 it is NOW justified worthy (battery drain issue is NOT in anyway related to it, except the funny random 90% battery indicator on Samsung Today widget right after unpluggin the charging cable).

Not sure about when updating (not sure about this either, lol) to Paul or others' bug-free latest ROM version will definitely improve and fix the annoying battery indicator, unless the ROMs are 3D TFlo ;) .

i upgraded to rom xj3 and battery performance was way better.

the only item which might give you a bastery drain is S2U2

i have noticed that in combination with making calls on a bluetooth carkit it sometimes stays on draining the battery.

you better stick with official roms for the moment(i am)

after i get used to flashing the device i might try something different.

i also heart reports of people flashing their phone the proper way with official firmware and still ended up with a brick.

i think the early roms(HH1) might have a little bug which causes this.

when you flash with the official rom you at least still have your warranty when things go wrong.

my advice if you want to flash it.

first give a hard reset to make sure everything is wiped from your phone.

after it is up andd running do the firmware update.

as far as i can see the update utility also does a hard reset but installs something prior to upgrading

this is known as the modemdriver.

i do not know why because the firmware is loaded from the internal mem.(samsung offivcial methode)

Long press on the contact you wish to remove will bring up a menu
