Guest btek Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 Hello, I am a new Jack owner (Fido from Canada). The first thing I did was install WM6.1 so I have no experience with WM6.0. However, I have used WM5.0 for many years with another device (Qtek 8310). One thing that intrigued me about the Jack was the built-in GPS (I have always used a bluetooth external GPS and Mapopolis with my other phone). I read many threads on this site to figure out how to get it to work. Using TheLostSoul's tips, here are my results. .without installing any hacks/etc and after a complete format, Google maps works fine - it is rpetty slow to connect however (several minutes) .after installing GPSID and setting Google maps to the same settings, everything speeds up - connects in way under a minute - plus GPSTest works quite well .the modaco gps activator doesnt seem to change anything - it worked before it was installed and after it was installed - I decided it was not necessary (note that the SDA unlock is requried before this will install) .messing with the GPSID settings (anything other than the recommended) seems to break the GPS completely and reverting the GPSID settings does not seem to fix it (a full format is necessary) .Mapopolis will not connect to the internal GPS at any one of the above steps So, a couple of questions .I do not really understand the GPSID settings - is there any documentation available? Why do only the suggested settings work? .How is the internal GPS different than an external bluetooth GPS? Clearly Mapopolis treats the COM ports as different - or perhaps, the data format is different. Thanks.
