Guest jinx_uk_98 Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 Hi Guys, Is it possible to change the application that is called up when you press the the Left 'call' button on my Omina? I've changed the funtion of the other side button but want to load a different phonebook application I have been using. cheers
Guest potinue Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 I would like to know it too. I dont like built in Phone book. The dialer is ok, but the phone book is not finger friendly. I downloaded iContact. It owns.
Guest gravityz Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 i did this to replace the standard phonebook in the phone application. go to the icontact directory and copy icontact.exe to SECContact.exe(what out that it does not get .exe.exe instead of .exe) copy this file to the windows directory you get a warning that it will overwrite the current file in rom no worries, you can not overwrite a file in rom what windows does is place a copy with the same name over the original aplication. when you want the original back just delete it again and the original will appear from the icontact directory copy settings.ini to \windows copy the themes directory to \windows (result has to be \windows\themes\... al the files now when you start up the phone application and press the phonebook button icontacts will be launched I would like to know it too. Guest jjwoo_uk Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 (edited) There's a software you can purchase called AE Button Plus. I've only just got it this morning on my Omnia & I'm enjoying the flexibility. It seems you can add Double press Triple Press etc. even to add more functionality to the hardware buttons. Now I can set iContact to my left key or anything else, bypassing the horrible Phonebook. Untouched buttons remain perfectly the same. seems great Edited November 1, 2008 by jjwoo_uk
Guest gravityz Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 yes but again another program will make the omnia even slower also the combination icontacts idialer is not perfect. when you are in idialer and press the green buton it still launces the standard dialer. my combination is better keep the original phone application so you can always call reliable but us icontacts as a way better phonebook. Guest jjwoo_uk Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 (edited) I am very much interested in your method but I'm afraid I cannot find where SECContact is stored. Could you please offer a step-through of instructions, eg file paths etc? I would appreciate that. Edited November 1, 2008 by jjwoo_uk
Guest gravityz Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 well i thought my description was pretty complete. please note that some experience with handling the file explorer is required(copying/pasting /renaming files) a good one is resco file explorer this one gives you options to copy/past but also to duplicate. this is a must have application on your pocketpc. alternative to this is you do al this on your pc connect through activesync and explore your pocketpc until you see the directories program files, windows etc i will assume you have the english version. startup resco explorer go to \program files\icontact in that directory you see a file calles icontact SELECT AND HOLDIT and make a copy(it will creat copy of icontact) SELECT AND HOLD this file and rename it into SECContact SELECT AND HOLD this file and select copy go to the \windows directory SELECT AND HOLD the windows directory until the options appear select paste after this you get a couple of warnings but go ahead. go back to the \program files\icontact directory and use the same copy/paste methode for settings themes(directory) so after this you will have in the windows directory a file called SECcontact with a black white icon a file called settings a directory called themes. now when you start up the phone application and press the phonebook button icontacts will be launched I am very much interested in your method but I'm afraid I cannot find where SECContact is stored. Could you please offer a step-through of instructions, eg file paths etc? I would appreciate that.
Guest jjwoo_uk Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Wonderful thanks. I'll give it a go. With AE Buttons I'm thinking of sticking with that & assigning "phonebook" instead of "phone" which is a better interface from the original. Reason is icontact gives a few problems, sometimes the softkey bar at the bottom disappears & there's no way to actually close icontact fully except from Task Manager. Finally I suppose it's because icontact & idialer aren't actually replacing the defaults, so i often have to rely back on the original Omnia dialer in certain situations.
Guest pp56825 Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 additional problems with "AE Buttons" solution are: - when you want to to answer the call with TALK green button [maped to idialel for example ] it will execute idialer you can only use soft buttons to answer - currently idialer/icontact load/start time is preaty slow i find some preaty good skinable dialer "Minimal Dialer" but there is no skin for WQVGA, unfortunatly i don't have much time and skils to make one, maybe someone will do it soon. But again its also not perfect solution because this dialer still when you hide keypad you have small rows with contacts.
Guest potinue Posted November 3, 2008 Report Posted November 3, 2008 I searched, and find a reg key called :MSCProg. I've tried to modify the registry key: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSCProg -> cprog.exe is the dialer. It seemed to be ok, i pushed the call button, iDialer started, but i couldnt connect to any network. So i think there is some authentication modul or something in the cprog.exe. So Dialing is ok, but if i dont use the original, then i cant make a call.
Guest potinue Posted November 3, 2008 Report Posted November 3, 2008 The book is working, but i would like to replace the original dialer too.
Guest jpotrpin Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 hi. I aIso would like to change dialer and contacts with iDialer and Icontacs, i tried the method mentioned before, but i cant overwrite the SCCContact.exe that is in \Windows directory. I'm using SPB mobile shell And I can't change file's properties... Any Suggestions? Thanx.
Guest evil Homer 3k Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 (edited) I've had mixed results. I've got icontacts 0.91 installed. If I launch from programs tab in M2D, works fine. If I replace the SECContact.exe in the Windows directory, it opens icontact, but the display is corrupted. The icons are missing, and it leaves lots of artifacts when I scroll. However, if I have the original icontact.exe open from the program launcher (or Touchlauncher), it works fine. I've scoured both the net and the registry on the phone to find any sort of entry to change the path from pressing "All People" in the People Tab in M2D from loading SECContact to icontact with absolutely no success. Has anyone else had the graphical corruption? This is both with fullscreen and windowed (so taskbar shows), and any skins. Getting annoyed now, because icontact is a much better phonebook to use, and Samsung's effort (and outlook) are so retarded to use. UPDATE Ok, fixed it. Realised something I had missed. I didn't copy the themes and background images over as well. Works fine at the moment. Edited February 14, 2009 by evil Homer 3k
