Trying to get the most out of i900!

Hi guys,

Ive been reading these forums over the last few weeks since getting the Omnia, and you have all been very helpful! Currently using a few apps from Paul's sticky and also Paul's fix to remove the autolock when calling.

However I was too scared to update the firmware (currently using XXHG5 both PDA and phone), but now I see cooked ROMS available and things are really starting to pickup with customizing this phone.

I have the following questions that I thought you could point me in the right direction with (I apologise for the wall of text):

1. I already have coreplayer and watching movies etc is quite good, but I would love to be able to watch flash based stuff on websites directly e.g. youtube but not the mobile youtube as the quality is too poor. Coreplayer does work but sometimes it doesnt want to, ideally want something like emtube on the n95 (which used to work a couple of months ago). Anyway Ive been reading I need flashlite 3 - how do I get this?

2. Customization of themes. I would like to change the look of my phone so that its easier to use with my thumb. Currently using this program I think called Today2 (basically enabled 2 today screens) and using samsungs today screen on one of them while the other is my default one which has the time (another app I found) and tasks, mail, wifi/bt status etc, as on samsung's today screen the time takes up most of the screen (would have loved to been able to just reduce the font size of that and fit more stuff on the page). But the theme kinda changes when it wants to, the today screen is like a blue windows theme, then the menu is a sort of cremy samsung theme, an apps go back to blue, some even use their own (klaxxo is black). Is there anyway to have a proper way to make everything look the same and ideally without me having to sit and make everything myself (i.e. download the theme then install it and thats it)? Ive tried spb but it didnt replace the today screen, it just acted like another program - not really what Im looking for. I see the iphone and I really envy it sometimes thinking I should have bought that, as everything is nice and big and it all looks the same.

3. USB transfer rate. Is there any way to make this faster? If I put an 800mb movie on the phone's 8gig storage it will take 15-20 minutes.

4. If you go to the phone section the keypad is using what looks like Times new roman font - is there a way to change this (as it looks disgusting, do samsung use their phones before they release them or what?).

5. My phone sometimes goes on standby and the screen stays black regardless of how many times I click the screen, buttons or the power buttons. The phone still works and recieves calls, but the screen stays black. I have to take the battery out and put the phone back on to get it out of this coma. Ive narrowed the problem down to either the wifi or bluetooth - when these are on, the problem can occur. When these are turned off, there seems to be no problem. I havent used wifi or bluetooth for a week now, and the phone hasnt been off since. Last week I used bluetooth with my car hands free bluetooth, and after leaving the car and forgetting to turn bt off, I found my phone back in that coma. Strangely, not dismissing a notification for a meeting in the calendar also caused the same problem (wifi and bt were off aswell). Do any of the firmwares fix this problem?

6. The screen rotates when I dont want it to. I only need the screen to rotate when Im using opera, or looking at photos for example (coreplayer goes in full screen without the need for the screen to rotate), and not rotate when I pick my phone up when I need to use it only to have to wait for it to decide which way it thinks I want to look at it. Is there a way to make it rotate only for some apps and not for the rest of the time?

7. Touchscreen sensitivity and scrollspeed. Is there a way to make it more sensitive? Moving the screen in some apps like opera is awkward as it sometimes thinks Ive clicked on a link when I havent.

8. Task bar. Is there a way to make all programs running appear in a taskbar at the bottom? For example, if I connect my phone to my pc, MyMobiler starts up, and on my phone it shows a little icon at the bottom showing that, and I click this to get to settings and exit etc. Anyway to do this for all the apps?

9. Alarms. Is there a way to make everything use one alarm system? I have 3 now on my phone, each doing their own thing. There is the samsung one which is on the samsung clock app, there is the alarm default setup for the OS, and there is Klaxxon which I installed as I couldnt use my own mp3 as an alarm tone in the other 2. Notification of there being an alarm on is only shown on samsung today and the pocket digital clock if its done in the default alarm system and not the others.

10. Email synchornization with PC. I use outlook 2007 as activesync required outlook to be installed for it to work properly. However I dont want all my email accounts synced to the phone - how can I tell either the phone or outlook to not sync an email account, tried looking, couldnt find it anywhere.

Sorry didnt realise I had so many questions! Hope someone can answer what they can, Im sure most of this is possible but there doesnt seem to be an easy to find guide to all of them, the answers seem to be scattered in forum posts and within a few pages as well (not all in the first post).

Im really interested in this cooked ROMS and if I need to update to get the most out of my phone then I will!

2 Today screens: The flexibility in the today screens is the both the biggest benefit and the biggest curse of owning a windows mobile. You can do what ever you want - it just takes time to set it up to do it properly. The iphone has a nice basic set up - if you want to have a similar set up try ifonz or itask or winterface or set up UltimateLauncher to do the same thing. Interfaces like Manila 2D or ThrottleLaucher offer a very different experience - but both are thumb friendly. Basically - with windows you have to spend a little time getting your phone set up how you want it - but it will be great once you've done it.

3. Are you using ActiveSync to transfer data? It is painfully slow. Always change to USB Mass Storage mode (via the Settings>connections>USB connection).

4. You can certainly change the default windows font (which is Tahoma). But the keypad - I am not sure - shall look at the registry entries and see if I can find a font reference.

5. What ROM are you using? I heard a few people complaining about this on earlier ROMs, but I thought it was fixed for later ROMs. So try updating to a more recent ROM (like the HJ1 through 5)

8. Try using WKTask. It is a really good task manager and will give you "PC" style boxes on the top windows bar (next to the start menu). Wow thanks for the great response, I'll check out your included links! Think I will try updating to Paul's ROM and then install flashlite 3 (as I dont use the samsung widgets anymore) and see if that works out for me.
