New sms not starting with a capital.

Any help with this would be great as I have looked all over with no solution. If I reply to a thread or input data elsewhere the capitalisation works fine but if i start a new sms message there is no capital at the start or after a full stop. I have use capitals selected in the input settings and have tried in threaded and single sms modes.
