Guest smevans Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 I am finding this a real pain. I have tried the built in keyboards... the Touchpal, Resco ones too but i just cant seem to be accurate when using the touchscreen. Are there any keyboards that you think could help ? Im starting to think i may send the phone back as im within my 14day period. Shame as its a great handset..
Guest finaldestiny Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 If you have a problem with omnia's texting capabilities then you should have one with just about every other phone. If the full keypad mode bothers you, there's the "blackberry mode" and a traditional mode, and with haptic feedback i could swear i was pressing real buttons. So i'm not sure what problem you're having with it. To each his own i guess. Just my 2 cents
Guest Gemmac Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 Well I get by ok on it, but nowhere near as fast as my nokia n95. I do find it quite fiddly to be honest. I do use touchpal as I've found this the best, but I agree that it can lack accuracy. Mine doesn't have the haptic feedback when texting either which I think is a shame. Guest cd78 Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 I find it difficult to text too. <_< Compared to my N73 the omnia is hard work! I used to send texts with one hand and eat a sarnie or whatever with the other....no more  Ive now got unlimited texts but i cant be arsed to text coz its too much hard work.. Ive tried the resco keyboard but found that it sometimes didnt register button presses even though the letter "popped" up.. Ive now reverted to the samsung keyboard (which is much better in landscape btw) but it infuriantingly enters letter twice after one press at least once in every text i send!
Guest gavzter Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 just use the phone pad - it types text in the same way a normal phone does. only annoying thing is that the xt9 is nowhere near as easy to use predictive text as a nokia. Gavz
Guest PaulD76 Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Hello Ive had the Omnia a while now but have started to realize that I wont get any faster at texting!!I make loads of typos with the QWERTY keyboard and the samsung phonepad is good, But the XT9 predictive text, seems to me, an awful system. The old system on the old NOKIAS and even the Samsung TOCO is 100% better. For example, if i want to type THE, it should be easy.. but with this phone, its just not easy. why did they change the system? More importantly, is there a way i can change the SMS system to use the old style? surely being a windows mobile i should be able to change most things?? any help would be appreciated as if hardly text now as its too much effort. and when i do its short messages. shame i didnt realize this in my cool off period. apart from this i love the phone!!!! just use the phone pad - it types text in the same way a normal phone does. only annoying thing is that the xt9 is nowhere near as easy to use predictive text as a nokia. Guest zagzag99 Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Tx9 isn't as in Nokia, true... but it's really not bad. Fixes most of my typos. And I am texting with ease. The only pain is that it sometimes adds a space after the word (although I checked that off) and that the space button location in landscape is a bit tricky to get used to. All in all, I'm happy with it. I won't type in one hand or while driving, but actually that's better way to keep me alive.
Guest PaulD76 Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Zagzag99 can u tell me what settings you are using? I will try again. I was going to use the Samsung phonepad, under options \ word completion I have the 3 boxes ticked (suggest, add & enable). But it doesnt seem to complete any words for me. For example, I want to type the word "THE", so on my old nokia (or the samsung toco) i would just hit "tuv", "ghi", "def" but sadly this doesnt give me THE, i get TGD. I did it by cycling thru the letters hoping next time it would realized what i did, but it didnt seem to remember. its almost like it has no predictive texting, just suggests a word in the above line... ooh i wish i could figure this out! LOL maybe im not being to bright on this but usually i pick these things up straight away! i dont hear to many complaints so it cant be too bad.. like u say tho, no way i can text with 1 hand, and texting while driving is impossible (Which is a GOOD thing!! no temptation now!) cheers Tx9 isn't as in Nokia, true... but it's really not bad. Guest PaulD76 Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Hey - using the Samsung Keypad. U can switch between the XT9 and the Tab settings, and the TAB thing works like the nokia! man im happy to have figured that out.... thank god - i love my omnia again!!!!! yay Zagzag99 can u tell me what settings you are using? Guest zagzag99 Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 I didn't do much changes from the defaults of HJ1 XT9 Settings: Language - english word completion - after 3 letters spell correction - yes next word prediction - no (didn't try it) auto append - yes auto substitution - yes multitap word completion - yes In input settings -> word completion (second tab) Suggest words when entering text - yes suggest after 2 letters suggest 4 words add space after - no enabled auto correct - yes
Guest Cutefox Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 sadly yes i found texting hard on omnia too.. i had since after using omnia for 2 months as my fone for texting etc etc to only using is 2nd phone for free calls and multimedia use only.. all my missus been complainin of my lack of txting during that last 2 months.. this is due to how hard and fidly it is i got real lazy to txt and call instead.. i revert back to my i780 which is a wonderful keyboard allowing me to type a 160 letters sms in about 30secs.. with any touchscreen based phones only its really hard to type as fast.. i own a few wm phones so far and i would only go for any with physical kb as touchscreen no matter what u use is still fiddly.. as much as i reckon omnia is a wonderful phone, it would be great if sammie can release a touch pro like omnia which is a slim as omnia..
Guest Massive Attack Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 (edited) whats "blackberry mode"? im having trouble texting too, it needs precision when pressing, which is hard especially if youre in a moving vehicle, thats when i switch to keypad mode, ok but not that efficient for fast typing. resco would have been a good keyboard, if it can only register every keys i pressed, if you will return your omnia, i guess you would switch to phone with full qwerty keyboard like xperia or touch pro. Guest mobilehappy Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 New version of the SPB Keyboard is out, check it out here.. A lot of new features for instance in landscape mode you can have it vertically set to be fullscreen, half screen or quarter screen size.
Guest lrlfc Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 I tried the Resco keypad, but gave up, the keypad is nice to use, but I couldnt find how o get a £, the symbols only have $ and € and the extra skins with more keys arent as easy to use, so its back to standard
Guest finaldestiny Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 There's samsung keyboard, keypad and phonepad. I call the keypad "blackberry mode" because I first saw it in a blackberry phone (just about every blackberry phone i see has it). Sorry about the confusion
Guest Massive Attack Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 thanks those who recommended touchpal, im using it right now, much easier to use than samsung keyboard, keys are spaced so the screen wont confuse which button you are trying to press, plus the flick movement to upper case, symbols, etc. cool! plus the fact that its free. B)
Guest andre77 Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 I like this one. Its a phone pad but easier to use than the samsung.phonepad_atom_wwe.cab
Guest Anom2685 Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 I had been getting on fine using the predictive text on the Omnia, until recently it has started displaying a bunch of foreign word suggestions, with foreign characters. The same when I turn predictive off, I used to be able to press, for example, abc doesn't just have abc, it has abc, plus a whole bunch of variations of abc's with accents, etc on them... Pretty time consuming to have to go through them all.. I am thinking I must have just enabled some setting somewhere, but I can't find it for the life of me! It would be a shame to have to reset the phone just to remove this problem. Anyone else had a similar issue or know how to solve it?
