Guest Paul (MVP) Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 CamerAware has now been updated with Samsung Omnia compatability... http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-pr...1-and-touch-hd/ If you use even the free version, I believe that hitting 'Connect' when the application is configured at COM3/4800 allows TomTom to then work properly without needing GPSgate etc...? The added benefit here is that you can also have it running up Navizon points for you in the background... Please test and feedback! P
Guest nLinked Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 (edited) Well so far so good! I lauched it and it took too long to autodetect the GPS in my Omnia (default settings, port 3, 4800, hardware 9). So I just set them manually to Port 3 at 4800 bps. It detected the GPS and bear in mind I'm actually INSIDE the house right now. It says "5 of 9 - 3D Fix (or 30 Fix). This happened about 2 minutes after setting the ports manually and clicking Connect. I then opened TomTom (also using port 3, baud 4800) and it connected to GPS almost immedietely! This is inside the house too! I did not do an XTRA update for over a week now and it still found satelites. But then again, since the last XTRA update (which I don't do now, i have it disabled), I haven't really moved from my location so I don't know how well it will perform somewhere else. Will try out for sure! Edited November 5, 2008 by nLinked
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 Great, that's good news! P
Guest gravityz Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 Nice sales pitch if it actually worked. tried it multiple times started up ameraware and waited for a 3d fix afte that i fired up tomtom with cameraware i NEVER EVER got a fix in tomtom(tried both internal gps and other nmea settings) with gpsproxy it works EVERYTIME so i guess we can forget about this one. please note that everybody sometimes gets a fix without using other tools such as gpsproxy, gpsgate. and yes you than might draw the conclusion that it worksd native or it wokrs after an other program running on the background has a fix. what is important is that a solution needs to work everytime you try it. as strange as it is i only got this result with gpsproxy while others have good results with gpsgate or another program. this because there are losts of different roms out there and lots of customised omnia's CamerAware has now been updated with Samsung Omnia compatability... http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-pr...1-and-touch-hd/ If you use even the free version, I believe that hitting 'Connect' when the application is configured at COM3/4800 allows TomTom to then work properly without needing GPSgate etc...? Guest Paul (MVP) Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 Hmmm, on my HJ9 based ROM this worked... Not sure something counts as a sales pitch when you're touting free functionality gravityz. P
Guest nLinked Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 (edited) allows TomTom to then work properly without needing GPSgate etc...? Just to clarify, I want to know what the original problem is with TomTom. Is this a potential fix to help Tomtom to connect to satelites because it normally never does, or is it to help TomTom connect to satelites FASTER than it otherwise would without background software? Did some testing while driving with CamerAware and although TomTom found satelites, it did not connect to them - which is basically the same thing that happens when I use no background software. So I installed GPSProxy, it got a fix in a few seconds (probably because I had just used CamerAware and it knew the satelite positions?), but then when I launched Tomtom and configured it to use the GPSProxy virtual com port, it found satelites AND connected to them. I was able to navigate using Tomtom with GPSProxy. Now I'll give it a few more days of not using GPS (or I'll go to some further away location) and then connect up GPSProxy + Tomtom and see if it gets a quick fix like it did today. If it does, then I know GPSProxy is definately getting Tomtom to connect to satelites nice and quick without downloading XTRA data. Edited November 6, 2008 by nLinked
Guest MikeStanley Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 Hi I would like to try it on my Omnia Paul. Could you check your PM's from me - I have joined "Plus" about 4 weeks ago - and have not got the codes yet Thanks
Guest gravityz Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 (edited) It was just a joke Paul. maybee if you do a softreset and try it again. i also had everything working for a while and then al of a sudden it stopped. it looks like tomtom only starts interpreting the data after a fix has been established Hmmm, on my HJ9 based ROM this worked... Not sure something counts as a sales pitch when you're touting free functionality gravityz. P Edited November 6, 2008 by gravityz
Guest gravityz Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 first of all , the data has to be received. Xtra data helps and after that it still takes while to get accurate data. once you have this the gps should be able to get a fix quick. when you however do a softreet it seems that al the data goes out the window regardless of the XTRA file so then you will have to start al over. the thing with tomtom is it looks like it can not interpred the data right maybee the gps is sending extra databits that tomtom can not handle normally when you receive gps data in tomtom it is realtime, the salltelites are grey(no fix) but they move up and down(live data) with the omnia and tomtom it just loads the last data it has and keeps on displaying this(nothing changes, sattelites are not moving) this does not mean that there is no active data but tomtom does not display it and therefor not use it. without gpsproxy it keeps on displaying this old data but a fix is never established. in gpsproxy you see constant life data which is moving. when you supply this data to tomtom it acts the same. it displays the last data and it is static(no movement) if the however is a fix then it changes the screen and starts displaying live data with blue bars moving up and down. so whatever is causing the problem, gpsproxy gets rid of it(or adds someting) so tomtom can interpred the data correctly. really weird because other programs like igo8 have no problem the problem is within tomtom7 because this version is written especially for the htc devices when tomtom 7(i think 8 because current version is 7.910) becomes available for the pocketpc the support will probably be ok Just to clarify, I want to know what the original problem is with TomTom. You're right, when I soft reset my device, even GPSProxy did not get a fix compared to before the restart. I even went outside but it didn't get a fix. I will try again later on. I really want it to work without having to download data all the time. Maybe this just isn't possible with the Omnia's A-GPS (or else it will take too long)...
