Guest c0n3 Posted November 8, 2008 Report Posted November 8, 2008 Does anyone know which ROM doesn't have the 'issue' that noise reduction makes you feel like the line is dead when using the phone function and not talking? My original G5 ROM didn't have this strange behavior, but HH3 and HI1 are causing this to happen...
Guest yts17 Posted November 8, 2008 Report Posted November 8, 2008 pLEASE PLESASE Help in this issue . It's really annoying.me people said you have to disable the 3G to get rid of this stupid behaviour . but it still there even the 3G Off . PLease help
Guest colliderz Posted November 8, 2008 Report Posted November 8, 2008 Somebody please help us in this issue. This is really annoying.
Guest samjuan Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 I don't understand what the problem is exactly. Do you mean that both parties on both ends of the phone conversation cannot talk at the same time and hear each other simultaneously? I don't have that, if this is what you mean, and I am on J1.
Guest c0n3 Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 No, the problem is that the line is like it has died (silent) during a little pause in the conversation. Normally you'll still hear some noise in the background but seems like noise reduction kills the connection completely.

Normally you'll still hear some noise in the background but seems like noise reduction kills the connection completely. and that is a bad thing? since both parties are not talking, why should you care? however I believe this is a network thing, some operators save some time slots if the sound on the line is below a certain threshold, I am not sure what is it in your case but I never noticed that TBH.
Guest deeoo Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 I agree that this should be optional. I find myself asking "you still there?" everytime there's a (comfortable) silence.

Guest ZiTe747 Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 i dont think this is a problem with the handset or the rom u are using sounds more like a network issue if so you will just have to live with it nope it isn't the network. i have the same issue
Guest le.bouch Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 nope it isn't the network. i have the same issue I think it is to do with the handset - mine does it too. I've recently come to Samsung from a series of Nokias so it's not network dependant. It's some kind of 'noise gate' - I vaguely remember reading about this feature - it's got three initial letters, I think! Basically when the noise drops below a certain volume (i.e. when you or the other person stop talking!) the gate cuts in and silences everything else (i.e. the hiss). So, the hiss is still there but it's masked when someone's talking and it's cut when someone isn't. Hope that makes sense.
Guest ferst Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 (edited) B) hope someone can shed some light into this as my wife and I got each of us this phone and bacause of this noise gate thingy.. we end up squabbling about not listening to our conversations.. REALLY UNCOOL.... B) Edited November 10, 2008 by ferst
Guest yts17 Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 really annoying . and no one has a solution to it . IT's THE MAIN BUG OF THE OMNIA .
Guest c0n3 Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 really annoying . and no one has a solution to it . IT's THE MAIN BUG OF THE OMNIA . Anyone knows if this will be fixed in a future firmware update, of if there are firmware version not having this bug?
Guest bpivk Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 I think that this is a feature of Omnia and that it won't be fixed in future updates. P.S.: I love it because I really hate the background noise. Now i get some comfortable silence. )
Guest nheeka Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 anybody found an explanation or solution for this??

It's just like telling you miss the dust/cracking sound from those old records while you play a CD.

Sometimes I can hear background noises and sometimes it gets so quiet i have to make sure i am still connected... B) so I guess there won't be any fix for that...
Guest choihyun Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 I agree that this should be optional. I find myself asking "you still there?" everytime there's a (comfortable) silence. hahaha personally i never noticed it, but i think its cool
Guest leighaus Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 ive noticed it once, but then got used to the idea that theres noise cancellation.. cool feature i reckon.. B)
Guest nerdfactormax Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 It is most definately a problem for me on a number of levels. 1) the 'noise gate' feature on the wm9713 codec appears to also have a 'ramp up after noise' feature which makes the first syllable of a phrase very quiet. If the person on the other end is only saying "uh-huh...... yeah........ um...." most of this is lost. Not to mention the annoyance of no longer hearing a subtle sigh from the other end. 2) this ramp function makes patchy coverage even more patchy. We have pretty sketchy reception where I work, and now the small parts that get through are constantly ramping up and down in volume. 3) I'm often calling from or to, noisy environments. How the noise 'detection' works is unpredictable at best. 4) subconciously, most people feel like they've been disconnected when there's complete silence I will certainly try to investigate a hack as its a major downer on a majorly good (and free for me) phone.
Guest travelbug Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 what are you guys talking about. the noise reduction feature is kickass! i hate listening to background clutter there should be an option however to turn it off for those who dont want/need it. cheers
Guest JeFK Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 (edited) First of all...why are you quiet if you have an open call conversation? That what you think is wrong are operator settings. They think "why would we transmit the traffic if boath sites are silent?". So they stop sending information form site to another. It's like IP telephony. Edited December 10, 2008 by JeFK

Guest c0n3 Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Is there any news about disabling this noise cancellation function on the omnia? (i.e. maybe registry hack?!) Still very annoying to loose half of my conversation when using the phone in a silent environment :)
